Getting rid of heavy stone dash

    The exterior of my house is covered in heavy stone dash.  Horrible stuff. Similar to the picture attached. Its costing thousands to paint as it needs to be sprayed. 
    Is there a better long term option. 
    Remove it?
    Plaster over it?
    Insulate over it? Probably not needed as I insulated the internal walls with insulated slab during renovation. 

    Has anyone had this problem and how much did it cost to get rid of it.

    why is it costing thousands to spray it.
    hire it yourself for 150 a day .

    That is what I am being quoted and I haven't time to spray it myself due to work commitments.
