Thankfully Rochford has ignored calls for o shea to be a 20 minute impact sub ;)

thought Stephen corn was very good today - wonder if he'll get a place in half back line for the next match

Let's just say I wasn't too annoyed to see Vaughan pick up that black card.

They can't play Galway, even in the unlikely event that Galway lose the Connacht final. If Roscommon win tomorrow, Mayo automatically play Cork.

I wouldn't say unlikely. Roscommon are every bit as good as Galway. They haven't been playing that well year but I wouldn't rule them yet :)

For Mayo's sake I hope that's not accurate

Harrison lucky not to get a red for that.

Very dangerous and stupid thing to do with the game over.

Any other sport he would have. That said, it was a superb 2nd half performance by Mayo. One can only hope they will take that performance into their next 3 matches.

It's the same thing that happened last week. Clare have ran out of gas and Mayo are taking advantage with their superior fitness and endurance.

You don't really believe that do you? After 35mins? Really.

When we went back to the running game we were superb.
Job done in 10 mins after a woeful first half

It's two weeks to the next round, yes?

So if Galway win its Roscommon or Cork and if Roscommon win its automatically Cork, think thats what the last couple of posts have been trying to say :pac:

    Well you are fairly confident

Regardless of the outcome of this game I think Mayo's goose is cooked.

They are not doing any of the things they have done so well over the last few years.

    Running off the shoulder.
    Hard on your face tackling
    Creating turnovers.

    It's sad to see.
Up to half time it was hard to disagree with yeah Fr.T but then the 2nd half begins and they produce everything you mentioned your post and give us hope again :D

AOS was awesome today. When he plays like that we have a chance against anyone. Much needed goal from COC. Needed that to sort his head out. Onto the next one...

Am I right in saying if Galway win tomorrow and we win our round 4 game, our only possible opponent in the quarters is Kerry? That's how I'm reading the draw, but I could be missing something.

From what I've read, that seems to be the only option, which would certainly be interesting!

And it would be a double header with galways quarterfinal which would be some day out!

What's the story with the venue for the next round?

Galway might not make a quarter final
If they were to lose tomorrow they would face donegal next ........

But the scenario posed by the post I responded to was assuming Galway won tomorrow. I think if Galway don't win tomorrow, then it's not automatically Kerry for Mayo?

    Not totally correct.

If Galway beat Roscommon and Roscommon win their round 4 (v Donegal) and Mayo win their round 4 ( v Cork) then Mayo play Galway, as Galway cannot play Roscommon in the QF after meeting them in the Connacht final.

What's the story with the venue for the next round?

Neutral, usually CP but I think that's booked for U2 concerts.

If it's Cork then it could be back to Ennis.

Or worse, to Limerick. Which is a right bitch for parking.

Well done Mayo. Not an easy game today but really thought the boys wanted it there in the second half. Some players stood up there when it mattered and made it easy enough at the end.

Aside from Kevin, Aidan and Andy.

    Thought coen was excellent.
Higgins much better up the field.
The full back line are getting so much better. Harrison is just class and barret is mini Boyle. Cafferkey showed more aggression which was great.

Keegan drifts in and out. His attacking role has been curtailed a bit which is not good.
    Boyle was solid.
    Coen was great.
Seamus had some good moments but when he takes the ball into the tackle he had a real knack for loosing it.
DOC worked hard, great running and a fine goal.
COC was bad, very poor touches and I think sometimes he slows Mayo's momentum down too much when he takes ages over fees. His worst game ever I'd say so that's allowed.
Loftus looks up for it. Great hands, fast brain a touch of Andy about him.
Making Andy moran for 40 mins must be the toughest job in the world.

Subs were good. Some good options and all looking to make a mark and not just run down the click.

Terrible first half, but won it in 10 second half minutes. When they reverted back to the running game for those 10 mins clare just could not deal with it.

Will the mayo team please stand up.

There's an absolutely enormous car park directly across the road from the Gaelic Grounds, loads of easy parking within minutes walk in fact.

If it's Ros in round 4 is there any other possible venue other than Salthill? Is Markievicz and Carrick definitely out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,109 ✭✭✭Oldtree

Well that was a head wrecker but good to see the flair turned on at will. I'll say it again... All part of a cunning Rochford plan :)

Park in Bunratty and get a bus in...;)

Better still if there's a few together get a taxi, drop you at the gate, and get one back out afterwards. €5 a head should cover it easily and no hassle.

The problem is they will not get the luxury of a slow start v Kerry.

If they play like that then the game will be over before it starts.

That first half was very very depressing.

I think a lot of Mayo fans, myself included, and the national media are looking at this team through 2016 glasses.

They came through the qualifiers, (two out of two home games), avoided Dublin, got a soft SF, and then put up a good performance in the final, the first back door team to o get to a final since 2010.

Now everyone is expecting the same this year, a run through the qualiers to make you stronger.

But as I said earlier, I don't think they have it this year, unless they are so super conditioned and super desiplined to be holding it back for later in the year.

But I've never believed that team playing poorly were doing so as to "not show their hand", so neither do I believe it about Mayo.
