I keep seeing these lists on Facebook like "ten shocking ways they treated (insert social, ethnic group here)" and I wonder what will be our shame. What will shock our great grandchildren about western society?

The incredible wastefulness in our societies, especially regarding plastics, and the lack of regard for plastics and other rubbish ending up in the ocean.

Having blown 100m years worth of non-renewable fuel and raw material in 150 years should be a shocker but then I suppose people will see it coming!

Ironically, given the push for marriage on equality grounds, I suspect the notion of getting hitched will seem very quaint.

I think it might be the norm in 100 years!

I suppose when it runs out, we'll have to go off and buy some more.

    Waste, waste waste.

We pump oil out of the ground, make non recyclable plastic from it and then bury that in vast rubbish pits on the earth along with lots of other toxic stuff.

We really treat the earth like we have another chance when we spoil this one.

Hopefully not. It's very unnatural for small children to be required to sit still and behave themselves for hours on end - it's not unlike obedience training for dogs. The Japanese seem to be on the right track.

Pollution, waste, fossil fuels, not using renewable energy sooner, war, marriage, racism, religion, diets, school, and the 8 hour working day!

Top of my head + some stuff already said. It's a shame changing for the better and doing the right takes so long.

When our energy-expensive lifestyles become impossible to sustain in the future our descendants will look back on us with disgust for blowing through our one-off energy boon. They will look on us with envy for getting to live in such naivity to believe that *we* could just burn through all the one-off, easily accessed, cheap, energy-dense fuels while having vague ideas that our descendants would live in a kind of sterile, futuristic world of "clean" energy.

They will also look at us with disgust for thinking we could each eat 80, 100, 120 kg plus of meat a year if we so pleased, especially those who eat high-meat diets for vanity purposes. Meat consumption per person will be forced to be lower in the future, unless conditions suffered by farm animals become even more inhumane.

I know a good few teachers and if you suggested anything like this to them or slightly different they'd go nuts!

It's definitely not a popular opinion.

Baked Beans, at some stage the truth will come out that beans are the work of the devil and really are actually unfit for human consumption!

Very common complaint but what is the solution? The children that take medication are generally the children that need medication.

Ooh, you are? What's your area, if I can ask? I was recently reading about it again and the sheer amounts are mind-boggling.
