    I don't like it anyway.

On movies and booze today he had Julie Dupouy on doing the wine. Can't recall her ever been on before but she should get the slot full time it's the first time I've heard someone on the slot that actually knew about wine be nice if they got someone who knew about movies also!

It was her first time today

On the movie slot it has to be said it's a much harder slot than it would first seem. The reviewer really has to try to describe the film without telling you what actually happens in it. Compare that to the TV slot where they can go in detail to what actually happens as it's assumed most people will have seen it or it's not a big spoiler if they do.

I listen to the show via podcast but it has stopped updating, has this happened to anyone else?

Sean has become nauseatingly politically correct, in my opinion.

He started his show today (17 May 2017) with some clips from TV shows, all relating to the topic of 'identity'. In one of them, Piers Morgan was interviewing a couple who 'identify' themselves as 'binary'. They have shifting sexual identities, apparently, going from man to woman and in-between as the mood take them. Morgan questioned them on this, asking if he could 'identify' as a black woman if he felt like it. Could he 'identify' as an elephant, perhaps, and live in a zoo.

Moncrieff was unimpressed. Morgan should identify as an elephant and go live in a zoo, he thundered. He would be doing us all a favour.

In my opinion, Morgan was perfectly entitled to question the couple, rather than taking everything they said as gospel truth. No doubt if Moncrieff was interviewing them, he would have fawned all over them. Morgan, thankfully, at least tries to battle guff when he smells it.

Oh, if only the was true.

He'd be locked in a perpetual battle with himself, and would never bother anyone ever again.

I also think that Moncrieff is so liberal and politically correct that he is not objective.

He is like the talk show hosts in the US, like Trevor Noah and that Oliver guy. Very biased while pretending to be objective. That's very dishonest.

The world is more polarised than ever.

edit: Adam Hills in the UK, with the Last Leg. Completely liberal based and totally lacking in objectivity. But Adam Hills clearly thinks he's correct and that he can mock anyone who doesn't think like him.

Extremely arrogant and condescending from Adam, and from Sean too.

So it's Sean in Ireland, Adam Hills in the UK, and Trevor Noah and John Oliver in the US. Mentally ill liberals.

Just because you don't agree with them doesn't make them mentally ill ffs.
I want a bit of subjectivity in my talk radio otherwise it would be boring as fúck, doesn't matter if it's George Hook or Sean Moncrieff.

My opinion is that the people named are mentally ill.

I haven't formed that opinion because they have different viewpoints to mine. I formed that opinion as liberals cannot defend or debate their position without resorting to childish tactics like labelling and namecalling.

Sean, Adam Hills, Trevor Noah and John Oliver are all the same. Mocking and laughing but refusing to engage or explain why they have formed the opinions they have.

Adam Hills actually looks surprised constantly that anyone thinks differently to him. The level of arrogance is extreme. His whole show is based on his constant shock and surprise that people think differently to him.

So you label others as mentally ill, because they resort to "labelling" and "namecalling". Wouldn't that make you....nevermind.

Hmm. Serious bang of re-reg off this nonsense.

You forgot to mention the muslims, by the way. They're super bad, remember?

....there are exceptions to that rule...
We should end womens suffrage. Women are too forgiving and will vote in horrible people who pretend to be nice.

I heard Moncrieff interview an objectophiliac a couple of years ago. On the face of it, it sounded like another wackjob filler interview but to his credit Moncrieff coaxed out some interesting responses in a funny and engaging interview. The guest took some flack on the texts but Sean pointed out her bizarre orientation wasn't harming anyone else so why all the hate?

Piers Morgan, tabloid super-hack that he is, approaches everything from the starting point of "it must be a scam!" He didn't interview those admittedly fairly weird people for any insights - he did it so he could have a go at them. He's the human embodiment of the smouldering, frustrated rage of every Daily Mail reader. And he's a gammon-faced pr*$k.

The smouldering, frustrated rage of the Daily Mail reader is a good antidote to the cloying bleeding-heartedness of the Guardian reader.

A 'gammon-faced pr*$k' - classy. Given what Moncrief looks like, I don't think that's a good avenue for you to be going down.

I agree that John Oliver and Trevor Noah have a PC agenda. (I've never seen Adam Hills.) It's the same with Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers. They are all extremely condescending. I'd say Colbert has a major grudge against Trump. He presented a show on election night that amounted to a Clinton victory party. When the results came in indicating that Trump was going to win it, Colbert had a lot of egg on his face.

Moncrief used to have regular guests on that were of a more conservative disposition, like Gerard Casey, the UCD philosopher, and Brendan Purcell, the theologian. Alas they've been replaced by PC clones spouting the latest 'right on' opinions.

I think Piers Morgan did pretty poorly in the US. Pretty sure they had a petition to deport him. His outrage schtick didnt work over there plus he was anti gun. Neither side of the political spectrum likes him.

Sorry for going further off topic

I think the line drops more regularly on calls that he really can't be arsed with. it's the only show i can think of where they don't make an effort to call the person back again.

They tend to be rigid enough with the amount of time spent on interviews so once there's hassle with a phone line they don't bother trying to get them back because of the knock-on effect on it will have on their schedule.

Tbf, that interview was a load of nonsense.

there was an interview last week with the toe captain from the yukon, who made a drink with a toe from a corpse in the bottle. at the end of it, the canadian guy said 'go raibh mile maith agat' to which sean replied with something along the lines of "didn't know you could speak serbo-croat"

this bollockology is feckin annoying. this canadian guy went out of his way to get the phrase as good as he could and sean couldn't fkn acknowledge it positively, just had to be a condescending bollox about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 596 ✭✭✭Conservative

That stuck out to me too. I thought that was really poor from Sean.

When I started listening to Moncrieff over 10 years ago I expected him to be the smarmy git from DFTG and was surprised at what an engaging, amiable interviewer he was. Bit disappointed by this lapse - this guy wasn't some idiot texter who deserved that sarcasm.
