He's probably just some teenage kid doubt his identity newsworthy or would ad anything to the story. It would result in a lot of grief for him though.

Some journalist obviously thought it was, or they wouldn't have bothered researching it. The issue is that they're not deciding whether or not to publish it based purely on its newsworthiness - they're deciding based on the guy's future behaviour, and more specifically whether he does what they want him to.

Now, if they never thought it was newsworthy to begin with, then the only other possibility is that they specifically went looking for it in order to have the option to blackmail the guy. I'm actually giving them the benefit of the doubt by assuming there was no such malintent...

I've been reading this thread and its just gone round and round and round more times than Dougal, Florence, Brian and Zebedee!

This basic point is CNN bullied/blackmailed/threatened/coerced (call it what you like, I'm past caring!) an individual, private citizen. From an organisation the size of CNN? One of the first rules of journalism is don't become the story yourself, as CNN are now finding out why.

Absolutely and irrespectively of what the poster said, done or posted, CNN's threat to him is wrong and diabolical, even borderline fascist:
"SILENCE! OR ELSE!" knowing full well if the posters details were publicised, a fair amount of fruitloops would make his life toast. Anyone endeavoring to condone CNN's actions "...because..." is nothing more or less than weapons grade whataboutery being perpetrated by boring, virtue signaling snowflakes.

Like a previous poster, I'm off to walk my dogs for an hour or two, respond/post/reply or don't, I'm past caring, I doubt I'll be returning to this thread in a hurry.

The story here is quite simple. Why is the President of the United States attacking the free press?.
The gif shows Trump knocking down CNN . In reality that's not what been happening.

In terms of the vile kid. Singling out Jewish people who work for CNN is pathetic behaviour.

Because he and his supporters do not believe it to be politically neutral - a claim which CNN seems to be absolutely determined to verify, judging from its recent behaviour.

I thought it was a middle aged man who then apologised on reddit and admitted that he didn't feel coerced?

Maybe I'm out of the loop here but the idea that this was a kid sounds a bit like a lie. Trump supporters wouldn't spread lies, surely?

He attached a news channel. The press can attack the president. The media can attack other parts of the media. Jon Stewart attacked fox news. So have other politicians.

    No attacks on freedom there.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/blogs/ticket/obama-admin-spied-fox-news-reporter-james-rosen-134204299.html

The Justice Department spied extensively on Fox News reporter James Rosen in 2010, collecting his telephone records, tracking his movements in and out of the State Department and seizing two days of Rosen’s personal emails, the Washington Post reported on Monday.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/15/opinion/spying-on-the-associated-press.html

The Obama administration, which has a chilling zeal for investigating leaks and prosecuting leakers, has failed to offer a credible justification for secretly combing through the phone records of reporters and editors at The Associated Press in what looks like a fishing expedition for sources and an effort to frighten off whistle-blowers.

Reporter Sharyl Attkisson says feds hacked computer, CBS protected Obama

Trump hasn't done anything anywhere near the level as to what went on during the past administration. Plenty of bad rhetoric yes, but it's not comparable.

4chan churning out anti CNN memes. To them it's a 'meme war'.

It worked out pretty well for them when it came to the election so I can see where they're coming from :D

No argument there. In free societies politicians can attack the partisan press and vice versa.

The guy who created the meme, what exactly did he do wrong?

It wasnt that meme about trump but the racist antisemitic ones about a CNN staff he didn't want people to connect him with

Ooooh, I see, but all over the net and news, people are referring to the Trump wrestling meme.

It's their way of downplaying it. The gif drew attention to him but it was the whole wanting to kill people thing that made it a bigger thing. They probably can't see why anyone would have issue with the other comments.

I have to say he sounds like a charming individual going by his posts on reddit. a capital fellow indeed. Could one describe him as being typical of trump supporters?

Who knows? Would you call the guy who shot the republican senator recently a typical democrat supporter?

    Not really though.

CNN working out his identity and then contacting him made it a bigger thing.

I mean, what were they thinking?

I can't think of any possible outcome that wouldn't have made them look really bad.

Oh dear... From the guy who wrote the article and doxxed the meme guy, a tweet back in 2012:

What I like from this thread is people calling for racism. It's fascism...get the definition right. Racism doesn't exist in the perceived perception, as we're one race, the human race ffs. Different colours and cultures, yes, but not a different race!

Some little vile racist got a shock. Posting memes about what Jews work for CNN. Sick little puppy.
    .

What exactly did he say about them?

Was it a hitler had the right idea, gas them all kind of thing or just these people all happen to be jewish?

In general I find a lot of the "anti-Semitic" hysteria tends to be blown out of all proportion. Just saying someone is jewish is hardly racist!

    he contacted CNN.

They tried to contact him but we're unsuccessful and then he apologised and contacts them to come to an agreement not to release his identity as he didn't want people associating him and his family with the posts he made about Jewish workers at cnn

so he did contact CNN. glad we cleared that up.

    he contacted CNN.
What difference does it really make though?

They tried to contact him first, by phone and email.

I would guess that he knew it was them by whatever messages they left/emails they sent, and consequently deleted his posts and apologised, before contacting CNN himself.

Even if you don't consider emails and phone calls/messages contact, I don't really think it makes much difference that the first time that he spoke to CNN was him contacting them, rather than the other way round.
