I have had nights with genuine fans too, but some people are just annoying, and true fans or actual fans or not, you can be irritated to bits when trying to ingest the event.

Put it this way, when I watch any film I always have to have the subtitles on. Kind of intense when I am into something!

I also think that different sports/events are better suited to intense/alone type viewing and pub type viewing.

Big important football or soccer match I wouldn't be too fussed with the venue I am in.

Big fight or tennis slam final or F1 race and for me it has to be very little distraction.

I just cant forget about the fact he has never boxed before and is fighting an all time great in boxing .

Conor has been boxing since the age of 12. He trained in Crumlin Boxing Club.

He got into UFC as a fan and when he moved to Lucan he met Tom Egan who suggested he train with John Kavanagh if he was interesting in transitioning.

McGregor was 18 then...... and John spent the guts of the next five years trying very hard to get him to grapple but Conor was sure he could succeed without honing that skill and rely solely on his boxing for knockouts..... which worked for him more often that not.

In the end though, it wasn't enough and was beaten twice on the ground in fights.

Not suggesting that boxing at the level which he did for all those years compares to fighting Floyd Mayweather, obviously not, but his boxing coaches in Crumlin Boxing Club were furious that he was training in MMA and wanted him to return as they felt he had the talent to succeed as a boxer.

Some people are looking too deep into sparring sessions and also the manner in which Conor boxes in MMA. MMA Fighters have no choice but to box the way Conor does. His stance and style are a necessity for that sport given that the opponent can swing kicks, knees or go for a take down at any point.

Anybody judging Conor's boxing style on how he boxes in MMA is naive.

About the only aspect of his fighting game in MMA which is likely to be mirrored in a boxing fight is the power and accuracy he has shown and there is even a good argument to be made that this should improve given that he will be able to box at much closer proximity (without fear of being taken down or kicked) than he has in mma fights.

It actually does not matter a damn how he chooses to box in a boxing ring...

He is not and never was a pro boxer. It's really that simple. If Floyd shows up and performs then this will be glaringly obvious within a rd or two.

That is why Conor's best bet is to just go in and do his level best to avoid getting hurt too much, or hit cleanly too much. Plenty of ways he can do this.

He could always feign injury during the bout and collect his dough, and have many people wondering "what might have been."

Nobody said he was, chief. I was replying to the following comment:
    "....he has never boxed before...."

    And added:

In fairness, If I had to wait around until 5am, my opinion of the pub athmosphere might be very different.
But at 12-3am on a Sunday, it's mostly people with a genuine interest. Especially the run of the mill boxing or UFC events.
Obviously, they're be a good few for McGregor v Mayweather who dont want to fork out $50-60.

Wish it would be shown here in cinemas like some fights are in the States, Canada, Australia etc.

Savoy One with a bar would be sweet.... or any decent cinema really.

I could of phrased it a different way but chose not to as it would of offended people for some reason. In the context of the fight he is taking part in i dont think he has ever boxed .

Nice idea alright but imagine how messy that would be by the time the fight was on at 5am.

So you know he won Dublin Novice Championships at the National Stadium then too?

Strange for someone who knows all that to say....

Has that title ever been proven?
I've seen it questioned before and couldn't find it myself when trying to quickly look, couldn't find results going back far enough.

    .

I've read so many different accounts about this thing he supposedly won, is there any actual record of it?

Are you related to him ?

    OutlawPete

Im unsure of what you want from me in relation to this fight ? What do you want me to say ? What do you want me to admit ?

Are you annoyed i think Conor is very poor at boxing ? Why would this annoy you . He is the biggest star there has ever been in his own sport .

There have been conflicting reports on what he achieved as an amateur. I posted on this thread about that. A couple of claims thrown out that don't really make sense. He had circa 40 bouts I believe, and from what I know he didn't win anything of "significance" in the amateur ranks. I suppose the term significance is subjective for some.

He didn't win anything of significance, and didn't take the boxing nearly as seriously as others at the time

Here is a post immediately after his UFC debut:

I boxed with Conor in Crumlin and I'm pretty sure he won a schoolboys title. He has as much class as any senior champion in Ireland , Philip Sutcliffe would tell you that.
He was very difficult fighter to spar and he could show up most people in Crumlin at the time which says a lot.

The other piece of evidence we have is an RTE documentary showing a few trophies on the mantlepiece.

That's the thing a lot of people seem to forget. Whatever about his dedication to amateur boxing, he was still turning out for Yellowstone Celtic's saturday team right up until the Steve O' Keefe fight and that was only 3 fights before signing for the UFC!

It's sort of remarkable he was top goalscorer for Yellowstone in 2011 and ends up in Sweden fighting Brimage 18 months later. He downplays it a lot but I get the vibe he's a bigger soccer fan than he lets on.

Really gas to see the reactions. Everyone very dismissive of posters saying he will be ufc champ etc. I know hindsight is 20/20 but still interesting reading.

He's pretty much backed up everything he has ever said. What a journey.

Surely the American side of the pressers would be last.... save McGregor having to fly out to the US and then back to Europe again, then back to the US.

McGregor looks like Canelo in that poster

Why would he go the states then double back to Europe makes no sense, Kavanagh said the camp here wraps up the middle of the month they fly out in USA while he goes UFC Glasgow.
