    Doubt anyone really thinks that

I'm telling you the truth. You boxing fans come across very elitist.

Jesus, some of you fellas are awful sensitive.

Can you not digest and interpret a simple post?

It's just a personal preference for me. I have watched boxing matches in pubs and for me it's not near as enjoyable or effective.

Plenty of true fans amongst the mob. Plenty of passing fans and plenty of non fans.

For me this combination usually results in not near as enjoyable viewing as when you are at home in peace and actually being able to take it all in.

    Get over yourselves.....

That's possibly the most condescending nonsense you've posted to date. Which is saying something. By your ridiculous logic, people who go to ANY boxing/UFC/football matches/etc in person aren't "true fans".

You really are ridiculously sensitive/combative coming out with this nonsense.

I notice this too. Attitude like:

Oh my God sure McGregor won't be able to climb through the ropes to get in the ring because he has never done it before.

Ah here. This true fans crap is total bollocks.

You too seemed to miss my point.

In a pub with many there are a mixture of true fans, casual and non fans. That to me is a bad combination for true fans trying to enjoy and digest the action....

Surely amongst all you real MMA fans some of you have either been at a house with several people watching, or a pub wit many, where there are a certain number of people who are not fans at all who are interrupting, asking ridiculous questions and just making the experience a bit of a pain?

I can't be the only person to have experienced this?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 890 ✭✭✭Sweet Science

To think McGregor is a very poor boxer compared to Floyd Mayweather is in no way elitest.

    Its the perfectly logical.

So if everyone is missing your point, then maybe it's not the fault of people "not picking it up" but maybe, just maybe, it's you?

Anyway, **** it, maybe I'm just cranky this morning. Bit of manopause today.

Free into the presser? Anyone going? Know anyone going?

If it's with friends who aren't big fans one would hope you'd be glad to fill them in on their gaps of knowledge so that they can enjoy it more.

If boxing people were saying Mayweather could hold his own in an Octagon with Conor i would laugh at them.

I would have no issues with MMA lads on this forum ripping them.

In no way would i think they are being elitist or have an attitude.

    Maybe.

But the OTT sensitivity is a bit weird

I just don't like being amongst a mob when I am about to sit and watch something I admire and love. Not for me.

That's not to say you have to be of my view or else you are not a true fan. I never said or implied that, yet the OTT sensitivity caused some to jump in with both feet.

Plenty of hardcore adoring fans go to live events and have great times. Some enjoy that more than being at home watching with 0 interruptions.

I was specifically speaking about the pub. I have experienced less than enjoyable times in a pub watching a big fight. Usually due to crowds, noise, people getting in the way, shouting over commentary etc . That doesn't do it for me. I like to be engrossed in the event, and to be so requires interruptions to not be there.

And that is perfectly fine. It's what I think as well.

We're trying to discuss what could be done, what might happen, how **** might go down, how we want to watch it, etc etc.

And every reply from boxing fans is just "Lol, no."

Yeah that may be true . But as Chael Sonnen said just give us a valid reason . People can say how it can go down without backing it up with anything .

I will sit back and enjoy the show as much as the next guy .

Its when people break the fight down without any logic is what annoys me . Im not elitist . Im a geek when it comes to boxing . There is levels involved . Even at World title stage there are levels . Im sure you know that so im not being condenscending .

    Ahem.

I'd be the complete opposite. All that shouting and waving and hollering can take away a lot of the event for true fans....

I love to watch a good fight and digest it and hear it and feel it. You don't get that with a mob!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,495 ✭✭✭✭walshb

    Ahem.

Yes, "can," not does take away. And not all true fans either.

    Some, maybe more than some.....

Plenty of hardcore fans enjoy the shouting and hollering and all that when they go the pub. There are other hardcore fans that don't. Me being one. As I said, I like to ingest the event with the minimal of interruptions.

Well, seeing as we're coming from an MMA perspective, why not join us? What could work? What might work?

Mayweather has shown he can beat dyed in the wool boxers all day long. What can a highly competitive, highly driven, prime athlete in a similar, but wholely different, combat sport do?

Talk with us, instead of holier-than-thou-ing us.

He can turn up . Get beat and cash that huge cheque . Thats the reality of it . There is nothing he can do . He just isnt good enough at boxing .

But if you are asking how someone can beat Floyd . High high output. Keep him busy for all 3 minutes of every round . Hit him anywhere , arms shoulders anywhere . Double up on the jab. Cut off the ring try pin him in the corner and then hope to win on points.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 890 ✭✭✭Sweet Science

I just dont think his cardio is good enough for a high output for the whole fight

I dont think his single jab is good nevermind a double jab

I dont think his footwork is good enough to cut off the ring.

I dont think he will be good enough in the clinch to let his hands go and hit floyds arms or shoulders

I just cant forget about the fact he has never boxed before and is fighting an all time great in boxing .

How on Earth that is wrong i dont know

If you just said "it's not for me", I'd have said nothing. That's your opinion, you're entitled to it however much I feel your missing out. If you like watching it in your jocks eating cheeetos good for you.

But that's not what you said. The "true fans" is elitist nonsense. And has nothing to do with boxing, MMA or any sport.

I'll spell stuff out much clearer for you going forward. Either way your response was OTT sensitive and combative, considering the post was replying to you in good faith.

We're all combat sports fans at the end of it!

Well that's already been said. It's true.
    But I don't see how it's related?
Being elitiest has got to do with thinking Floyd wins. I think Floyd wins. It's the real fans do the bollox.

When this forum got more popular after McGregors rise. The "real fan" thing popped up a bit. But most posters were quick to stamp it out. It's a load of bollox.

So one person said he would rather watch a fight at home because a pub ruins it for real fans and now every boxing fan is elitest .

I think you took his comment ott by the way . It happens in every single sport people arent real fans because of such and such . All nonsense really

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,056 ✭✭✭Too Tough To Die

Over the top reaction to the 'real fan' comment. I've never heard a casual say they want to watch a fight alone so they can soak everything up with zero distractions, but i have heard it from what i consider 'real fans'. Doesn't mean you're not a real fan if you want to watch it in the pub with a bunch of casuals, and i don't think that was insinuated either.

In fairness, when people are suggesting things like "practice capoeira kicks in the locker room to mess with his head" or "maybe feint a leg kick to throw him off guard" the appropriate response is indeed "lol, no".

As I said above, if it came across as his just his opinion, I wouldn't have batted an eye. You gave your opinion, a theres was some discussion, no issues. (im in two minds about commentary myself)

I don't think I said anything about every boxing fan either. Certainly not my intention.

    My point exactly tbh.

I like both guys. Have been to 189 and 194 FFS and still get it in the ear for going . Just feel like my intelligence is being insulted the way people are dissecting the fight

Enjoy it for what it is . A crazy spectacle.

Dont get offended if people are 100% sure Conor will look stupid in a sport that isn't his own.

    + 1

It absolutely wasn't insinuated. Plenty of real hardcore and true fans do like going to pubs or stadiums to watch their sport.

I am a true boxing fan who rathers not to be distracted by what a pub atmosphere can distract me with...
