Buying Demos / expected discounts

I recently purchased a demo at an 18.5% discount from the OTR price. The car was approx 3 months registered, with 2.5k kms on the clock when I bought it.

There was no trade in. 20% deposit, the rest financed in full over 3 years. The dealer gets something back from this type of finance I understand.

My understanding is that dealers don't make much profit from new car sales, and usually don't give significant discounts on New cars, even when no trade in.

For future reference, do we know if dealers get a greater discount on the demo models they take from the manufacturers? Is a nearly 20% the norm when purchasing Demos. It's something I might again look out for in future.

Hard to know the ins and outs of the deal without more specifics re model bought, finance rate etc however that sounds like a decent discount but yes the dealer would be getting demo car at discount from manufacturer / distributor.

    Audi TT - 3.9% IR.

Was surprised at the level of discount they were able to give, not that I was forthcoming with such and did put in an offer I thought would be rejected, but after a little haggling it didn't change much.

If you got cash, then demo model makes sense. If you financing it, then demo model turns out worse then brand new, when you have zero percent apr.

 I don't follow. The new model doesn't have zero percent APR offer.

Edit, sorry. You mean in general.

Possibly, depends on how steep a discount you get with the demo.

Yes, sorry. I needed to be more clear.

As I said, demo models work out really great if you got cash or very high value trade in with the rest payed cash.

Though financing will make it worse in most cases, depending on manufacturer when you compare it to pcp with very low apr or zero apr.

You would want very heavy discount on demo model.
