Are you trying to say that Ford's and BMWs aren't well engineered ?

And pls don't start banging on about reliability. I am talking about dynamic ability. Like being good to drive and able to soak up bumps, being refined and quite will while having decent handling.

A well specced and bhp insignia is more than a match for some basic Audi A4 or 3 Series. Sadly, some people are so blinded by the "badge" that that's all they see and can't take a car on it's individual merits.

There more issues than that. But then so do most manufacturers.

In fairness BMW have improved their reliability in most surveys over the past 10yrs or so.

Hasn't there been major issues with one of the popular 5 Series engine engines at least up to 2011?

A well spec'd Opel is much more preferable than a basic spec Audi imo. Drove the Insignia equivalent Audi and was under whelmed and it was big money being asked.

Certain Opel models have been known to spontaneously combust though, a problem that Opel still try to deny. Most of their diesel engines upto a few years ago were reworked versions of engines manufactured by some other manufacturer. Some of their petrol engines over the years were poor also, from overheating head gaskets, stretching timing chains and seizures due to failing oil pumps. No better than most other car makers but they did have a following here due to their association with the Irish soccer team back in the 1980s and 1990s, these days though they don't have the same popularity or status here. They just don't seem to offer enough to stand out from the crowd in any way.

Yes, just like any other car brand they have their share of problems, no better but no worse than the crown they're not able to stand out from.

If it takes toys on it to make it a good car it's not any sort of match. Sorry, while I don't think the A4 is anything special myself, if you think sticking a few bits on an Insignia makes it a better or more desirable car than the A4 then that's the car you should buy. However you'll lose your shirt on it. Just because you can't tell why onr underlying car is still better than another doesn't mean the market cant. It's not brand snobbery, that's just an easy pop.
