Irish Medical and Hospital Directory

I am looking at a 1970 edition of "Irish Medical and Hospital Directory", which lists doctors in Ireland.
There doesn't seem to be a medical forum, so I'll ask my question here. Please move if not appropriate.
A series of positions are listed for each doctor, often the word "late" in front of the term. "Late H. Surg" is an example. These people were alive. I think that "late" signifies "ex" - does anyone know for sure?

I'm not certain either but I think you're right that it refers to their former roles within the medical profession.

Give the archivist in the RCPI a call but I think your interpretation is correct.

Definition of "delight": googling RCPI and realizing there is a dedicated heritage centre for the history of medicine in Ireland.

Definition of "disappointment": realizing that the centre is closed from today to 7th July.

RCSI might also be worth considering.

The records of the RCSI are held by the RCPI. The former didn't want to administer them.
