What is this trash on BBC4 ?

Jesus this has been bad this year.
Chic, Perry, Jackson's, etc. Derivative Pop crap.

Grumpy Old man switches TV off and opens gate fold LP of Hawkwind Space Ritual. Ah the smell of vinyl and the 1970s.

It's been a vintage year for me.
Both headline sets, plus this is the first year I've had access to all the red button / iPlayer stuff, so, while you may not find Hawkwind, there's something for most people.
DJ Shadow last night was very good, Metronomy just now are great :)

Don't know to be honest, you might be able to see the name here https://www.bbc.co.uk/music/audiovideo/featured

(although the videos won't work outside the UK legally)

I know it's too easy to bash Ed Sheeran, but his 'scat singing' and mawkish lyrics actually make me cringe.

    Will be looking elsewhere tonight.

The greatest trick Ed Sheeran's music ever pulled was convincing the world it did exist.

Hearing the Winehouse inspired singing coming through. It's bitter sweet.

Fair play to BBC Four for showing Biffy's set, as it wasn't scheduled. All in all, excellent coverage once again. :)

That Ian Dury biopic.I saw it before and was looking forward to it. Sent a few texts to mates I thought would enjoy too. Watched it, sent more texts saying 'Jaysus lads, sorry about that'. I thought it was bollocks.

Reading some music history books while on hols. I think Simon Beast originated the ban on Relax, the BBC as a whole followed afterwards.

I had a Thompson Twins sticker on my bedside locker for years from the 80s into the 90s. Never knew who they were for the most part. They were those stickers you got with Weetabix, had a bunch of Madness ones too, but at least I knew who they were.

Edit, wow, 1983! Top right, that Thompson Twin sticker and the Suggs one too

    Nena on TOTP.

Now I know this was a one hit wonder, and probably pretty ephemeral to pop history but it deserves to be remembered.

I remember the fear of nuclear war in the 1980's and the ramping up of tension with cold warriors in charge in the US, UK and germany.

There's nothing so poignant as the final verse "..in this dust that was a city.."

And if you need a context, read about exercise "Able Archer" in Wikipedia.
