How do you get the free chromecast? I don't see that offer

Yeah I think that offer is gone now unfortunately. I bought a GH about two weeks ago and got a Chromecast but just got another one as a present but didn't get the Chromecast at all.

It seems to be gone now alright, just the google music offer. Not the end of the world, I think the Chromecast Audio can be got cheap enough anyway and I have one already.

How are you finding the GH so far? I'm thinking that plus 2 CC Audios could sort out a nice little home music system for downstairs.

Yeah it's a great little machine, tbh I'm only using it for radio gettin the weather playing music etc. I'm going to get a NEST thermostat through electric Ireland and a few lights over the next few weeks so I can use it better. I'm always fascinated the questions it can answer.

I 've just bought one for my old man who is 85 next week. He was fascinated by my GH and he can get some hue lights etc and he'd made up. You know how these old wans love switching off lights....

That's good enough for me, I'm mad for turning off lights :)

Ordered from Curry's there, €146 with Revolut card, not bad.

    Separate Spotify accounts?

Unfortunately this hasn't anything to do with the Google home. It's Spotify.
The one way to get around it without getting a family Spotify plan is to download the playlist you like to your phone and then go offline. Then whatever she does won't affect you.

Actually the issue is more with the music industry. You have only paid for service for one person, so only one person can use it at a time. Same with Google Play Music and Apple Music (on other devices).

I suspect this will change in time. Google, Apple, Amazon and Spotify are all trying to get the music industry to loosen up on their restrictions on new devices like this.

Unfortunately my Curry's Home order got cancelled so I am still without my new gadget. Going to order from Argos instead I think.

In the meantime, having just bought a house, I'm looking into smart home gadgetry to pair with my Home. Was looking at the Phillips Hue systems but they are mouth wateringly expensive.

Are there other options or does anyone know if these do be on sale often and what would be good to start with? Seems a great idea but might be a tad expensive at the moment.

You can get it from the Google store as well I got one last week from there. Just use the parcel motel address.

Hue stuff goes on sale every few months. Usually during the Amazon prime sales. Picked most of mine up during those sales. Still not cheap, but takes the edge off the cost and well worth it imo.

Was looking for internet radios at weekend and came across the echo and Google home as better alternatives.

What are people's thoughts on the offers returning with the free Chromecast devices in the next few weeks?

Was this only an early bird offer?

Maplin.ie is showing them in stock in limericks, is this still an error as not released here yet?

I guessing Argos uk and Google uk seem to be the best options right now?

I will be using address pal if anyone has experience with this service for above.

So, I finally got my Google Home. Ordered from Argos on Monday afternoon using Revolut and Parcel Motel and got it this morning which was fairly quick.

I've been tinkering around with it, just playing music from Spotify really, and I can get the hang of playing music OK. I can also cast it to my chromecast audio but this is where things start to get flakey.

Once casted to the Chromecast I can't get it to stop playing the music or forward the tracks, which are things I can do no problem when playing music straight through the Home (probably cos I don't know the command). Also, if it plays the music on the Home and the Chromecast there's a lag of about 1 second which is really annoying.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here, I thought it would be more straightforward to cast between devices but it's a bit of a mess.

That sucks. Zero lag for mine, and sometimes i'm streaming to up to 4 devices at a time. How's your broadband connection?

Usually an "Ok Google, stop" will get it to stop whatever its doing (music, casting etc).

Has anyone been able to setup multiple accounts on their Google home since that feature came to the UK?

I was able to setup my account, but when I go to devices on my wifes phone there's no option to train the Google Home for her account.

Its' possibly me doing something wrong. I turned it off there and tried again and it seems to be responding to commands once casted to my chromecast now.

Do you have the same music playing on all devices? What's the command you use to have the same music play in sync on Home and Chromecast.

Was sitting a good 15 feet away from it there and asked it to cast Chopin to living room chromecast and it did it no problem so impressed with that anyway

You have to assign them to the same Home Group -

Legend, thanks for that. I set up a downstairs group there and working perfect now.

Ordered from Argos and it was the 3 months Google Music free offer but no indication on how to redeem the offer. I have Spotify already but no harm trying Google Play for the few months. Has anyone here got the same offer and successfully redeemed?

Sickened I missed the free chromecast offers, could do with a handful of them now.

Okay lads tell me what to do...All set on the Google Home... and now this...

    Amazon Deals -

Amazon Echo £70 Off down to £79.99
Echo Dot £15 off down to £34.99

Tell me is this is just the last chance for mazon:p
Tell me to stick with plans for the google Home:o

What about a Dot as backup to Google home with BT speaker I already have??

It was an easy decision for me. I've the house kitted out with chromecast audios, and the Echo doesn't support casting to multiple devices. I also use Google music.

What makes you lean towards the GHome rather than the Echo?

    I currently use...

    Gmail account and calander
    Android phone
    Android auto
    Spotify
    Better search, question responses?
Multi user, not sure if echo has this?
    Better future upgrades?

Current have no smart home device but maybe later.

Disadvantage of Google is there is no dot equivalent if I want to add small devices to bedroom etc. Later

I would like ability to stream to my speaker also . Not sure if either can do this now on there own. (Echo with for and Google home with audio cast)

Is Multi User supported here yet? I had my Home set up for myself to recognise my voice and give my info etc. and herself got a prompt on her phone to enter her details and to register her voice but all it did was replace me as a user and gave her details when I asked it questions.

Okay Curry's UK have the Home for £99 today only (Just seen it now).

I know some others have not been successful with curry's, and I have tried everything using Address Pal, but keeps refusing Credit card payment and Pay Pal payment.

Is there any ideas if this is possible to get it from curry's, or just give up...Only 1 hour left:confused:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,964 ✭✭✭ForestFire

Well it looks like pay pal has sent the payment request through to curry's, even though the curry's website showed an error.

Now I face the prospect of having 4 delivered, or none. :)

    Ha ha make that 5..
