Of the 500+ islands off the coast of Ireland some are obviously posher than others. Most don't have anyone living on them which makes them a bit harder to be posh. Although not impossible

Inish Turk Beg seems quite posh

So does Inisheer. It might not have the million dolla 'pad' but houses aint cheap there. A sizeable barge used to call there, courtesy of Irish water keeping the tanks topped up. Everyone there seems to be on holidays. Well-to-do teachers trying to pass the 3 months, people with holiday homes. Much of the banal everyday working life seems to be blisfully absent from this island.

Then there's Rathlin. Full of day trippers sitting on the terrace with their pints waiting for their meal to come out. But which is the poshest? Phone now to get your vote in early.. 1550 915 ...

Go to Clare Island and it's got all these rust bucket cars tooting along. Apparently they don't need NCT there. It might have changed since though.

Actually which was the island Haughey bought out of curiosity?

Technically its lambay,it's owned by the baring family, second only to the rothschild family in terms of wealth and influence. Whiddy island just off Bantry is a fully operational oil terminal again, but the islanders wouldn't benefit much from it.

Lambday is a wildlife sanctuary or something no? No one is allowed on it.

The current Lord Revelstoke, the seventh, known to his friends as Alex Baring, wants to attract wealthy tourists to this island destination, when it is not being used by his family

Its possible to visit, but only by appointment. Interesting little aside regarding lambay,a few breeding pairs of wallabies were introduced to the island at some stage and are still thriving to this day.

I know they were nearing extinction at the time or something. Other wildlife too not just wallabies. :)

Nah not really, just got to be involved in the rspb (Royal society for protection of birds) or have a bit of dirt on one of the members of said society and it can be arranged easily enough.

Now all I can think about is The Wicker Man.

There's a tiny islet in the middle of a lake nearish here, it's on the way to one of the "big" towns (I live way out in the west of Ireland, "big town" is relative). Just a house on this rock. The islet is so small that the three-storey house is basically the entire island.

Pretty posh-looking, but you wouldn't want to be the sleep-walking type!

    Lambay Island.

It's got names like Lord Revelstoke and Cecil connected to it.

    Also wallabies.
