And btw N26 is very fast with sending credit transfers. They must have many batches per day and if I initiate one lets say at 9AM usually the money hits the destination account before or around lunch time. As far as Irish banks go KBC is a bit slower but not too bad either. Of all the Irish banks I have tried (BOI, KBC, PTSB) it is the only one which sometimes makes it happen on the same day (a transfer initiated in the morning will usually hit the destination account in the afternoon).

N26 and KBC probably use more clearing cycles available to them by the clearing house they use (EBA STEP2). Irish banks only use, I think, one cycle to send payments but have to be available to receive payments on all cycles. There are about 7 or 8 cycles per day I think.

Hopefully this will all change when instant payments comes on line.

The free option does get there the next day if done by 15:00.

Crazy. If I do a transfer from my credit union account in the middle of the night, it hits N26 the following lunchtime.

N26 now offering €15 for every friend that you refer who opens and loads their account.

Has anyone had an issue when you try and transfer or Moneybeam and the final "confirmation" dialog never shows up on the app?? Unable to transfer all week because of this. Tried reinstalling the app and repairing the smartphone but still same.

I tried that and get a " no connection to server" message when I look for friends in contact list. Not sure why? It will work if I put in a number, but I want to just select people of my contact list.
Of course I can't find any live support through the app...

I just tried to use my n26 debit card to buy dollars at the post office but it was declined  It didn't recognise it as a debit card, I had to withdraw cash at an ATM. Massive PITA. I thought this was fixed?

I can confirm I've used my N26 card at a few different post offices in the past few months with no problem.

Not sure they are all using the exact same payment terminals though.

Send An Post an email on Customer.Services@anpost.ie with the name of the post office. They were able to sort it out for me very quickly. Maybe the update didn't get pushed through to your local post office.

Overdrafts are only supported for customers based in Germany and need to be applied for rather than being setup automatically: https://support.n26.com/read/000001261?locale=en

If what GhostyMcGhost described is accurate, it is rather strange that the account could have gone into negative balance.

GhostyMcGhost, have you installed the app on your new phone (or logged into the website) to check the transaction history on the account and your PDF statements? What does it show?

Just to jump back to this, tested it just to see in Tesco, wouldn't allow it go into the red on my card so certainly a strange instance.

    Just got mine.
As a fully licensed bank across Europe, we’re required to submit important tax information to the regulatory authorities.

It’s a completely standard procedure, and it shouldn’t take you more than a few minutes to submit your tax ID. If you’re tax-liable in multiple countries, please submit your tax ID information for each country. You can find clear instructions to get this information from every country here in Section III of each document.

In the newest version of the N26 app we’ve created a submission form in the Tax Information section of your control center, so you can submit your tax ID there. Please be aware, that for data security reasons we can’t accept any tax information you send us via email.

In case you already entered the country of your tax residency but you did not submit your tax ID yet, just follow these steps:
Remove the country from the list shown in your app
Add the country again and also enter your tax ID as described above
If you already provided tax information when signing up for your N26 account, please check whether the information is still correct and complete.

Please submit your tax ID information before 30 June 2017.

Was wondering about this - when I do my tax returns the return says have you opened a foreign bank account during the year. Is n26 foreign or Irish ? I just move money from my current account to it and use my n26 card for most purchases as it has less fees.

Edit : no tax field on my account settings.

You can't see the "Tax Information" section under account settings or it doesn't work?

If you can see it, did you do this?

    Worked for me.

Actually the be fair I also found the email they send is not clear. It gives a link to the website but that link is just the support page and can't actually be used to input the information.

It is explained in a very convoluted way, but as far as I understand it is simply your PPS number: https://www.oecd.org/tax/automatic-exchange/crs-implementation-and-assistance/tax-identification-numbers/Ireland-TIN.pdf

if you open the link from the phone it will automatically launch the app in the tax section of the settings.

What happens if you don't? Will threaten to close down all accounts again? I'm getting tired of these German tricks.

They are not tricks, they are adhering to the laws.

I don't know the laws in Ireland but in Germany you are allowed to earn around ?800 in interest (across all accounts and assets) before you get taxed on the remainder. If you don't give your tax id, then you will pay tax on everything.

I assume this is being brought in now because of the new savings accounts, as the current accounts earn no interest.

You can't blame there for implementing new regulation. All banks across Europe are likely doing the exact same thing at the moment (although if your Irish bank already has your PPS number it will be trwnsparent to you).

Does anyone know how long it takes them to close an account? I submitted the closure form last week and never heard anything back.

I don't understand this. Can you explain. I thought you pay dirt on all interest you make or am I mistaken?

That is my impesssion as well (and at least for savings accounts in Ireland you pay dirt from the first cent of interests you get). Also interested in hearing more ...

I assume unless clearly stated otherwise we are talking about rules for tax residents in Ireland here.
