I applied for a N26 card am am wondering if I still need an Irish bank account, ie: what can you NOT do with N26? Thanx and glad to see so many users.

You cannot lodge cash or checks. You can not get overdraft facility. And you might have issues with some Irish organisations not being able to set-up direct debits with a German account or to transfer money to that account (that would be illegal and it will be less and less common, but it still is a problem with some).

Hi Bob24, thanx for the above, I'm concerned as to who will cause DD problems, at the moment only TV lic and LPT is DD with Irish bank. Can I ditch my irish bank yet?

Not sure about those. More likely than not they will be fine but you won't know for sure until you talk to someone who has tried or try it yourself. Also make sure your employer has no issue paying you on a non-Irish account if applicable (mine has no problem but I think some people have had issues).

My suggestion, open the N26 account and keep the Irish one for a few months. If after a couple of months you have managed to transfer everything over to N26, only then close the Irish one (I actually just did that).

Ah and it is not very common and also kind of illegal, but one other thing I forgot: some websites might only take payments from cards issued by Irish institutions. I have been using foreign cards here for a while and had the problem only twice though (dixons.ie and online top-up with Three, which is now fixed), but mentioning it just in case.

Well it sounds as though things are moving on all right and I will keep those points in mind.Wont be long until we are ordering an electric car direct online and paying with a mobile card. How times move on.

Has anyone got negative feedback on N26. Bar a few companies been 'lazy' about dealing with N26 'deemed illegal' are there any other barriers to switching to a non Irish card?

Not a dealbreaker, but they are pretty bad with fixing non-critical bugs on the app and the website.

The statistics section of the website has been "under maintenance" for 4 or 5 months (before that it was available but reporting incorrect figures for a few months). And also there is a bug which sometimes cancels the spending category your have assigned to a transaction after a few days without letting you know so if you use that feature you find out later that all the classification you did is gone.

Both reported to N26 by myself and others on twitter (they took down the stats page when I reported the issues with wrong financial figures there) and still not addressed whereas it seems like pretty basic stuff.

Push notifications are still not working for DD, reported in November last year and still not solved. Pretty annoying as it was a great feature when it was working.

Apart from that, it is a great service. They are so far ahead of traditional banks in terms of what they offer a basic user.

So mortgage payments aside, are DD all ok to switch from Irish bank to N26? I'm ok on the non ATM transax, just want to move weekly / monthly transfers to N26 95% been just manual transfers.

My app shows a message: "your smartphone is not paired. pair it now"

The app is working fine, I am getting all notifications. So what does that message mean?

    Thank you for your help!

I think it might mean you can access the account details but the phone will not be able to authorise transactions. For exemple you won't be able to authorise a credit transfer to another bank account from that phone.

Yea, it could be indeed. I am using just for payments abroad so never actually use it to transfer money to other bank accounts.

    Thank you!

Anyone here doing PSTB > N26 transfers?

Recently signed up. Did a small transfer on Monday afternoon and it still hasn't appeared.

Just wondering what times others are experiencing?

That issue from Twitter aside, I find it generally takes about a day less to do N26-> PTSB transfers rather than in the other direction even if sent at the same time. So maybe in future if you're needing it on a certain date allow a bit more time in that regard

    Thanks for the responses.

It came in about 20 minutes after posting! Typical!

Yeah, I will be sure to allow more time once I start using the account properly.

It should take no more than 1 business day* for a euro transfer to a EU country. This is a European Directive (PSD).

*Note that a business day can end at 3 or 4pm for some banks.

I've never had an issue with N26 to PTSB transfers, in either direction.

You can make a complaint to the Competition Commissioner for any business that won't take a non-Irish SEPA account (this is from the Central Bank).

I think the biggest issue would be employers whose payroll system isn't set up for it. It's one thing forcing the hand of another business, even if it means making regulatory complaints, but doing it to your employer could be awkward.

Sorry I haven't read through the entire thread, so I apologise if this has been asked before.

Does anyone here use a EBS moneymanager account?

Does it take long to transfer money from EBS to N26?
    Overnight.

Thanks I'll switch to them next week I'm tired of waiting for Ulster Bank who take 2 or 3 days.

Should make a complaint to them. You're not the first person I've heard to complain about this with Ulster Bank. There are rules that require all the banks to remit payments by the next working day.

If this is what they do it is illegal to charge for a next working day service. SEPA regulations stipulate their delay to process a credit transfer is 1 working day (note that it doesn't always mean the next day though: if the bank's working day ends at 5pm on Monday and you initiate your credit transfer at 6PM, technically your request was received on Tuesday morning and therefore they have until the Wednesday morning to process it).

And btw N26 is very fast with sending credit transfers. They must have many batches per day and if I initiate one lets say at 9AM usually the money hits the destination account before or around lunch time. As far as Irish banks go KBC is a bit slower but not too bad either. Of all the Irish banks I have tried (BOI, KBC, PTSB) it is the only one which sometimes makes it happen on the same day (a transfer initiated in the morning will usually hit the destination account in the afternoon).
