have shimano or campagnolo ever reissued a groupset? was at bloom at the weekend and there was a nice old concorde with shimano 600 locked behind one of the food stalls. much cleaner looking than modern drivetrains. i'm sure there would be a small market for it?

There's a premium for NOS (New old stock) bike parts on ebay etc
A lot are not actually NOS (just lightly used) but some are, if it's in the original box and rare they can go for silly prices.

I realised this week that my children are probably going to grow up thinking Carlton Kirby's name is "F**king Carlton Kirby".

And from a web page about Escobar (http://www.alpsandes.com/posts/clinginquisition.com/2009/11/pablo-escobar-guerrillas-and-my-dream.html), caption for a photo:
Gonzalo Marin, a talented Colombian cyclist who rode for one of Escobar's teams (note his shorts.) This particular team was meant to support and spread the word about Escobar's legitimate political aspirations. Marin, sadly, was later assassinated by Escobar's men. [Picture scanned from Matt Rendell's book Kings of The mountains]

    and another
Pictured here with his family, Alfonzo Florez was the first Colombian to ever wear the Tour's polka dot jersey (in 1983), he also won the amateur Tour de France in 1982. Florez was gunned down by traffickers affiliated with Escobar in 1992.

    and…
Armando Aristizabal was part of the Cafe De Colombia team, and raced for the team in European races. His body was found outside Medellin in 1987. His hands were bound, he had been blindfolded, and his body showed signs of torture.

Anyone cut through Connolly Hospital on a regular basis by bike? I normally do if I'm coming from the Phoenix Park/Castleknock as I find it handier than waiting for the lights on the Snugborough road (nice little ramp too).

There's a painted on cycle track through the grounds, and the parking barrier at the Waterville exit was short enough to allow a cyclist on the track to pass through. The barrier was missing a few days ago, but it was back today spanning the full road. I had to dismount and squeeze by.

With the track and gap I'd assumed cycle through traffic was encouraged (they stopped cars doing so a few years ago). Perhaps no longer :(
The short barrier is back! The long one had taken a knock and was pushed outwards when I last went through (~3 weeks ago). I was glad I didn't have to practice my CX dismount again :p

Oh, that's odd, it does, yet people on Twitter were flagging Sunday as velodrome in Smithfield… I think… never trust any statement of mine involving arithmetic…

was there a family friendly cycling event on today which would have passed down the side of the runway at dublin airport this morning?

I was driving up that way this morning and was stuck in traffic behind the group approaching the section to pull in to watch planes. Very large group moving at around 20kph so doubt it was a club spin.

yeah, we saw a few kids, possibly pre-teen, in the group.

I saw a white sign, I think on friday on or near the N11, I can't recall the words though but definitely sounded like it was for kids or slower adults (as it not club cyclists), like the equivalent of a community "fun run".

EDIT: Found this, don't think its related to the sign I saw, but likely what you guys saw

Anyone know if TMG Cycles (Skerries) has relocated. The shop closed over the weekend and there is a PP notice up regarding re-development but nothing to indicate a relocation.

Three or fourish things I don't need in this stressful world.

    1. Mrs RS having daily near misses by cyclists bombing ped crossings.

    2. People salmoning up the middle of the lane around a corner on Lincoln place.

    3. Cyclists treating pedestrians as obstacles in general i.e. doing exactly the same thing that we hate cars doing.

    4. Cyclists shouting at slow pedestrians to "get off the road"

    4. General Mé Feinerism in everything, everywhere.

The level of total disregard for others is increasingly toxic.

And there'll never be enough enforcement to fix it, we need a massive rethink of how infrastructure drives behaviour.

Like dual carriageway layouts that signal drivers subconscious that they should be going at motorway speeds, or cycle lanes that tell drivers that cyclists should be getting out of their way.

Or junctions that throw cyclists and pedestrians together at random in a race to the bottom mé fein olympics.

Cars being described as safe when they are by far the most lethal form of transport (before you count our obesity death cult culture.)

And trolls like George Hook should be forced to attend the inquest of every cyclist or pedestrian, or driver or passenger killed y behaviour that they encourage.

    Move to Munich?

Avoid holidays in Sicily, Ukraine & Africa

We are hardwired to be selfish, once you get that life is simpler and calmer. Altruism is a mirage

I we should reintroduce birching. Anyone who can't behave like an adult gets publicly thrashed like a bold child.

I'd like a source to prove this. Otherwise it's pop science.

There's growing science data to show that we are born empathetic and more importantly, our environment and experiences effect plasticity.

A mirage is a optical effect, altruism an abstract. You want to be a hard ass cynic about stuff, fine, but that level of negativity adds to the same poor environment.

Agreed, while some people are not, in the majority we are, it is hugely beneficial to our survival. This can change over time and can be absent in some.

It's a long way from pop science, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus in scientific community from what I've read.

    article/game-theory-calls-cooperation-into-question1/

Good article, you'll get links to read up on both sides from it.

Richard Dawkin's "Selfish gene", is interesting if very dry. Plenty dissenting voices also.
