It's probably part of Leo Varadkar?s plan to get us all up early in the morning.

Yeah i've only been on the back one day as they were badly stuck. not nice i admit!

    I'm on over 30k a year, on a 4 day week.

I'd do the odd 5th day here and there.

Only for the money, i wouldn't have taken the job, stayed in the job.

It must be the easiest, best paying job i have had.

And in case people wonder, no the smell of rubbish doesn't go home with you, it's all a myth.

Would the wages be much lower for the guys who do the bin emptying and putting them back?

Get everyone in the street to use the one company. The only one truck comes down

I can't get everyone on my street to acknowledge each other. The idea of getting them to work together for the greater good is laughable!

We need to get rid of that Mayor Quimby.

Thanks for the info, I often thought of applying for a job with one of the companies here in Galway, work in a coldstore at the moment so I'm used to the cold and that's a lot better money than what I'm on.

I'd look into the detils of each company as the rate of pay varies, If you work in cold stores that kind of work is no problem to you, would you be interested in driving the truck?

I wonder would a query to the Gardai help?
    Absolutely.

"Hello guard. The binmen are here again."

"Hello guard. Someone is taking my rubbish."

"Hello guard. There's a truck outside on the road. It's very noisy."

Do you still get Christmas gifts from customers?

I remember being on a truck maybe 10 years ago as part of an EPA project and one house had left out a bag of fresh scones at the gate with an envelope in it cos it was about 2 weeks to Christmas!

Yeah we still get them, however they aren't as plentiful as they once were, due to the recession most likely, they are making a comeback though, The amount of offers of tea/coffee/biscuits we get is actually nice.

No don't have the license, wouldn't mind doing the work emptying the bins though.

As laughable as getting companies to waste a few hours til you get up?

4.30am collection has been the norm here for the last few months, used to be 4.15am.........

    Is that even legal?

Putting what back? I haven't seen a binman return a bin to anywhere close to a house in years. They normally shove them aside out of the way of the truck in a random direction and **** everyone else.

Oh and my collection times were between 1am and 3am for about 2 years until the neighbours complained. Both bins into the back of the one truck at same time until they started coming around after 7am with which they now use two separate trucks with one for recycling only.

Department of Environment issue waste collection permits, any legal issues might best be directed to them, Residential and commercial have different starting times.

The residential waste collection workers don't start until 6am, meaning the first collections usually wouldn't take place until 6.30.

However, 5am starts do happen, but not very often.

I am not sure on the legality but it may or may not come under noise pollution outside certain hours, i.e between the hours of 11pm & 5am for example.

We put the bins back where we got them, it's in our manifest and is an instruction we adhere to.

    Those collection times seem crazy.

Both waste and recycling into the one truck?

Waste and compost into the one truck is known to happen, the thing there is the compactor is divided inside to facilitate it and avoid contamination, well that's the plan, but the amount of contaminated recycling is worse than you'd think, also the remains of animals being disposed of in compost bins has been heard of.

Yeah but it went on for a couple of years. Now it's around 9am for black bin and like 2pm for recycling.

Yeah I know there can be a divider but the same company had been fined for it before and tbh at those hours it seemed dodgy enough. As soon as the trucks were pulled from the dodgy hours, they miraculously popped a second truck solely for recycling on the same route. Maybe I'm just a cynical bastard. The same truck collects the refuse at 9am that did both bins at 2am previous.

Around 35% contamination according to Panda. Apparently a lot of people seem to think sh*t-filled nappies are recyclable.

Oh and it's the National Waste Collection Permit Office that issues the waste collection permits that will have any time constraints. Www.nwcpo.ie

Next time i get a chance i will post photos of what goes into my truck, which isn't divided and also a photo of the truck being emptied along with the way in which it is disposed.

Nothing is gruesome, i assure you.

Same trucks collecting different waste is not unheard of.

    waste/compost/glass/recycling.

Then you'd get the odd cheeky person trying to fcuk a few black bags into the back of the truck

It's in the waste companies interests to keep material as separate as they can. Black bin / general waste is the most expensive to deal with so they want nothing else going into that

Wouldn't be far off that at all.

Sh1t filled nappies, sanitary towels and food waste are some of the things i have come across in recycling bins, potato peelings, apple and orange peels etc.

    Diarmuid Gavin tried the whole

    Reduce
    Reuse
    Recycle thing before,

Maybe as the recycling bins are supposed to be free that is why so much sh1te ends up in them thus reducing the weight of the black bin.
