With Carbery starting on Sat I wonder will Luke McGrath get the nod to maintain that partnership...

Have they even played that much together for Leinster? They did at the start of the season alright, not too sure have they played together since Byrne took over at 10?

They'll at least have trained together a large amount which is worth something. The USA game is the match to try something like that. Marmion is going as first choice on this tour so I'd expect him to start the first Japan game if not both. Maybe give McGrath and Cooney this fixture.

I assume the team will be named tonight?

Alas, those days are gone temporarily. I might have a couple of beers but I might not even go the distance if the game is poor (I expect I will though).

I also expect the game to be poor enough, though. Would be nice to see a try fest but I imagine something along the lines of 3 tries for us. It's due to be 30C over there at the weekend so will be energy sapping stuff for the players.

A Boards Wide Drinking Game experiment could be fun on a Saturday Night. All participants agree to remotely get drunk in their own living rooms. :D

Drink for every time they try to relate rugby to football?

What lineup are people thinking for this game???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,026 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

    As a guess:

    Healy
    Scannell
    Ryan
    Toner
    Treadwell
    Ruddock
    VdF
    Conan

    Marmion
    Carbery
    Marshall
    Ringrose
    Zebo
    Earls
    ToH

That's pretty much the team I'd select anyway apart from the back three where I'd give Stockdale a go.

That might be a safer bet than drinking everytime they say "offence".

    Other possibilities:

    "The football"
    "Awesome"
    "Field judge"
    "Receiver"

I'd be disappointed if that's the back line for the weakest game of the tour, to be honest.

ill still be hung over from Eddie Vedder the night before, but i may crack open a few cold ones during this game.....

hopefully we have some "rugby 15s rumble" and a "slice" as a kick, "jacked up" and "punching to the corner" :)

I know there's little point in throwing a scratch side of novices together but do players like Earls or Healy really need to start this?

I suppose they'd both feel they're close to the Lions squad. Schmidt specifically mentioned Earls, Ringrose and Healy as guys he felt were unlucky.

You'd think this is the game to experiment. As most have said Japan will be tough enough. No guarantees we win those games.

That said they may just pick the strongest XV for every game with injuries and form taking care of the rest meaning everyone will get some sort of run.

Does anyone think there is a chance of seeing this? He was an excellent goal kicker in his SCT days

Think a good few guys have had a 2-3 weeks without a game so will need some gametime before Japan games and with plenty of inexperienced players ar this level getting picked then Healy/earls etc will get picked
