Woman killed by two bull mastiffs in Galway

    Gardaí are investigating the death of a woman from injuries sustained when she was attacked by dogs in Co Galway on Sunday evening.
    Gardaí are still at the scene. It is understood the woman was visiting a relative at a house on Mountain Road, Moycullen, when she was attacked by the two pit bull terriers.
    Emergency services rushed to the scene but the woman’s injuries were fatal. A Garda spokesman said there are no further details at present


    Awful news, poor woman :(

    Terrible news, I'll get slatted for this opinion but I know people with large dogs such as pit bulls(bull mastiffs in this case) and they can often have difficulty controlling them. The reply you always get is your more likely to get bitten by a Jack Russell.The difference in my opinion is if a Jack Russell bits you you can lift them but the strength that some pit bulls/Rottweiler is unreal.

    Spose I'm just afraid of dogs, especially pitbulls. Would expect responsible owners to keep muzzles on these dangerous breeds, and would expect/hope Gardai enforce legislation in relation to these dangerous breeds.
    After that, I don't really care much about people and their pets.

    The difference between a pit and a lab is obvious.
    Labs might bite more people , but that's as far as they will usually go.
    If A pitbull gets a set on you , it will kill or do serious damage to you or whatever it's after if it can.
    You will literally have to kill the dog to get it to stop.

    Statistics will show that certain types of dog are more dangerous than other. Same as smokers that defend by saying. I know someone who lived to 100 and smoked 57 a day.

    Golden Lab don't have the tools to do as much damage, and I don't recall a fatal attack by one, (not to say there hasn't been any). Someone getting bitten by a dog, not news, someone being killed by a dog, news.

    None of this is the dogs fault.

    Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

    Another breed not known for human death. The breed might change again and again as there's clarity regarding what exactly happened.

    My thoughts are with the woman's family and friends. Tragic stuff.

    I know somebody with one of these and she has no business with it. She hasn't the strength to control it. It was actually a woman really involved in an animal rights organisation who gave it to her.

    These dogs should not be pets, simple as.

    Any I see around have the stereotypical onwer, young lad in trackie bottoms and baseball cap, trying to look hard.

    The woman, who was in her 60s and from the Moycullen area, had called to a relative’s house at Knockarasser, in the Furbo electroral district on the Moycullen road.
    It is understood she was set upon by two dogs, described as bull mastiffs.
    Sounds like the dogs did what they were trained to do; attack trespassers.

    Just like child soldiers, if trained to attack, dogs can inflict horrific damage.

    When will people get it that certain breeds of dogs are predisposed to be able to inflict more damage when they attack.

    Couple that with the fact that scrotes adore having these animals and treating them very badly, well, no wonder really these things happen.

    Sad news nonetheless, horrific way for anyone to go. :(
