Make mix tapes by taping songs off the radio and cracking up when the DJ talks over/cuts off the end of the song. Bane of my teenage years :(

I think these are examples of things people don't have to do anymore... better examples are things that people no longer really do that maybe we should - such as, simply for example, call in to each other randomly!

I no longer answer my front door because at least 9/10 times it's some spoofer trying to sell me something or get me to change gas/electric/internet providers.

Borrow ridiculous sums of money and invest it into futile property projects.

    Well, not as much anyway.

Just a thing that came up on the Motors forum. People are much less likely to do their own simple car servicing these days. When I were a lad(insert pic of short trousers, flat cap and a sweet cigarette hanging from my lip), most dads of a weekend once a month would be under the bonnet doing some fiddling about. Actually a bit of DIY servicing of household stuff in general. People are much more likely to "get a man in". Now stuff has become more complex(often needlessly I would argue) which has an effect and more stuff is "sealed for life", but much of the time you can sort out many problems in short order. Especially now that we have google/youtube that will show you how. Though maybe it's like cookery and gardening programmes and people want to watch rather than do?

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Not pluck their uni brow. There used to be a massive social stigma against men altering their eyebrows by removing hair so it was quite common to see men with hair between their eyebrows. In the last 10, 12 years due to the pressure of social media, camera phones etc.people in general have become more image conscious resulting in the extinction of the unibrow.

Very true that. My father and uncles could repair cars, build walls and sheds,do electrical work, wallpaper, paint and pretty much everything else.
As for mechanical work on cars..I witnesses my dad and uncle literally swinging a sledgehammer at a Renault 4 after the axle or something bent on it.
    With the exception of painting
I wouldn't probably try any of that stuff myself and would hafta pay for it.
In the 70s a great driver was the fact that nobody had any money. If you needed a wall built you did it yourself,or got somebody to show you

Well I would have done a bit of under bonnet work back in the day, along with fixing the exhaust pipe with beans cans, wire, and heat resistant cement. Not any more though :(

...mind you, I did recently repair the washing machine thanks to Youtube (blocked filter) only accessible by removing back panel & undoing hoses. Found a couple of colour catchers stuck in the filter.

I bled my radiators with the help of a YouTube video and then patched up a few cracks in the plaster with some pollyfilla-type stuff... felt like Tommy f*ckin Walsh afterward to be honest! Delighted with life, I was :D(*lifelong desk jockey and unhandiest man ever!*)
