I just heard from the BBC a short time ago that a series of explosions & gunfire are being heard outside a hotel in a resort located near Manilla Airport in the Philippines. The shootings and gunfire are happening inside a leisure complex.

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-40123389

I hope there is not a serious amount of people affected by this incident.

Any more verified info on it will be helpful to this story.

Good article on the situation in Marawi this morning in The Guardian. More kids and families living in Hell due to these fundamentalist pigs

ISIS are working to claim a province of their own in the Philipines. ISIS are like a disease spreading across the planet, terrorising not only the Middle East but other countries too, and we don't hear of a fraction of it over here.

This is heartbreaking stuff to know about the Philippines though in this current time.

These fundamentalist scumbags in Isis don't have any rights to claim a city though don't they.

They have no business spreading their bile to anyone that do not agree with their beliefs.

Isis should rot in hell for all I care.

Sounds like it's a pretty serious, and still ongoing incident. My husband has stayed at that hotel when he was in the Philippines on business a few years ago. He said at the time there was airport style security just to get into the place. Obviously it didn't stop this from happening.

Trump has just said live on the BBC that the incident in Manilla is a terrorist attack. He said the US is closely monitoring the situation. WTF?

Can see the Philippines being a new front over the next while. 10% Muslim population, majority on a couple of islands and other areas, President's a bit of a dick and been pissing off the West, perfect conditions alas.

Having been in that place, I do not know how they got a gun or anything into that place. Extremely tight security and a massive security presence. Scary stuff

I don't know that much about the Philippines, but I was under the impression that it was overwhelmingly Catholic? Is there a significant Muslim minority?

Just over 10% Muslim, majority in some areas, near to Indonesia who've had their own problems.

CNN had quoted Manilla police to say that the gunfire in the hotel resort earlier is not related to a Terror attack.

The Guardian is reporting now that the lone gunman is a burglar who had tried to steal casino chips from a storage room in the hotel.

Police told local radio that he is not an terrorist with links to Isis.

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2017/jun/01/philippines-attack-manila-resort-world-live

From The Guardian quoting police on radio station DZMM.
Don’t panic, this is not a cause for alarm. We cannot attribute this to terrorism. We are looking into a robbery angle because he did not hurt any people and went straight to the casino chips storage room. He parked at the second floor and barged into the casino, shooting large TV screens and poured gasoline on a table setting it on fire.

Rodrigo Duterte pissed off the global elite powers that be and has taken the Philippines out of the US sphere of influence. He recently met with President Putin of Russia.

The terrorists in the PH generally knocked ****e out of each other in the deep south of the country but this is a huge new escalation to bring terror to the mainland and capital in the North. The CIA have obviously decided to do some agitation in the PH because this is what this is. These attacks couldn't be more obvious as the US won't let China and Russia take control of the PH which has traditional been the Americans unsinkable aircraft carrier.

However Duterte is one hardheaded dude and I can see there being massive backlash from their Armed forces against the Muslims in Mindandao over this. As long as the Philippines has Duterte in charge there will be trouble as he has rubbed alot of people up the wrong way. Unless he and Trump can develop a bromance then I can see the Philippines sliding into full blown civil war shortly.

It has all the perfect conditions for it a sizable Muslim minority, crushing poverty, massive inequality, natural resources raped by multinationals, out of control over population. Deeply religious conservative Catholics who will fight back against Muslims, a macho politically incorrect patriarchal society. If things don't calm down soon I think there could even be a genocide against the Muslims in the south, nothing unites a country like a common enemy in the face of savage poverty and a nosediving currency.
