Theres a short piece in the Irish Mail on Sunday today claiming that the automatic passport control gates in T1 have been closed and will not be available again until the Autumn. The Immigration and Naturalisation Service have apparently confirmed this. Staff at the control stations have said its due to a row over maintenance contracts. Can anyone confirm they are no longer in use? Considering the past stories about delays at passport control in dublin airport this seems like extraodinary incompetence that this has been allowed to happen.

Arrived through T1 a few weeks ago and I didn't see anyone using the automated lanes; they seemed to be closed. The EU line looked very long as well, although it was still moving faster than the (also very long) non-EU line.
