As a wise Worf once said. "I will do as I please, I am on vacation"

There's no need for all that planning crack, You only need a few days worth of clothes, I've never been in a place that didn't either have facilities to wash clothes or have some sort of cleaning service.

There's no need to book in advance, I tend to move between cities while I'm on holiday and I tend to look up what's available in the next town the night before and get a last minute rate. I've only once been caught short in Amsterdam and had to stay at a camp site.

Just back from 3 week holiday in Vegas and LA and Utah. Only part I hate is the sleep pattern is all over the place.

A week of coke and hookers in LV will do that you.

My brother used to holiday like that for years but then made the mistake of trying to do it with a girlfriend and a baby.
Arrived in Sousse one night in peak season at nightfall in a hire car and not a room to be had driving around in desperation girlfriend sobbing in the back of the car whilst breastfeeding baba.
    Lesson learned

I go on my own and do what I want when I go holiday, no compromises, no stress, have things organised on what to do when I get there and the most important is going to a place I always wanted to go to.
Then I always book a window seat on the plane.
My only problem with holidays is the time goes too fast, but I guess it is like the saying that time goes fast when having fun.
    Seeing new places is fun.

Never actually been on a holiday outside Ireland. Not because I don't want to. Just my parents could never afford it when I was younger and sense I've become a young adult I have tired to book one twice now but every time something more urgent at home just comes up and I end up having to cancel it. Not even visited Britain or Northern Ireland.

My ideal day off work is spent in bed listening to music while reading the phone...Couldnt be arsed going anywhere....To much hassle for no reward.

That's where campsites can come in as a backup. Europe is covered in them, they even have them in the middle of cities. Many also have cabins, so you don't actually camp in a tent. It's gotten even better now thanks to the glamping craze.

Remove the idea of an Irish campsite when thinking about these places. There are 5 star campsites that basically have mini waterparks, top class restaurants, shops, pubs, etc.. Camping is a much more developed industry in most of Europe.

As a last resort keep them in mind as they're rarely ever booked out.

****ing hate when people spend half there holidays posting pictures of them drinking, eating, site seeing etc on facebook. Lots of people who live on the dole can somehow afford to spend 2 weeks in Spain :confused::confused:. Dont forget the obligtry airport pint pic lol

Dont have set hours for my job (week to week basis) so have offical days off (concerts, matches etc) and days when im not down too work. heading to London for 2 days for a concert 15/16 June and heard its quite expensive there. I dont tend to bring much on my holidays and a small school bag would do me depending how long im staying there. Normally buy tolietries in the airport

always revolve my overseas trips around concerts, never went on a sun/piss up holiday

The good thing about London is you probably don't have to stay in the expensive part. Because they have good public transport they've probably put on trains and buses for that concert so you don't have to stay near by.

I don't really find London that expensive compared to Ireland. Most streets are full of large chain restaurants that sell cheap food, the good quality places often aren't that much more expensive just harder to find and get to.

This year I've booked myself a nice walk around Google Maps.

I'm guessing you don't have kids.

I used to be like that. Lived for holidays, out clubbing til the sun came up, lounging on the beach all day with a cocktail in hand etc, it was paradise.

Enjoy it for as long as you can.

More kids than a goat farm.

I am unfortunately living in my memories:D

im flying into Standsted at 7.30 on the 15th, im staying in the Ruskin Arms Hotel on High Street (10 mins away from East Ham tube station). Bought my ticket for Madam Tussands and thinking of doing a bus tour. Concert is in West hams new stadium on the 16th.

If you're going to Tussauds your not far away from The Tiroler Hut, if you like Austrian food (mostly meat) it's a bit of a crazy place. The staff are all dressed up in traditional Austrian gear, the whole place is decked out like a traditional Austrian restaurant the beer comes in massive glasses and they sing karaoke, it's just a bit mental they did a lot of entertaining when I was there, it's not just about the food. I recommend if to everybody, it's not your typical London restaurant.

I think I love the planning more so than the actual fecking holiday. I spend weeks organising myself.

In saying that I've never had a bad holiday so the organisation must be worth it, no mishaps, losses, robbery, illness etc.

The best part of a holiday for me is not having to drive, it's a dream to just have a week or 2 if I'm lucky when I just get driven around or can walk where I want to go. Love that.

I love flying, I love nice hotels, I love swimming, I love seeing new places and doing new things, I love meeting new people, I love not having any pressure of work, I love being able to go to bed/get up whenever I want, I love doing nothing but read all day in a shady spot if I want to.

    I love holidays.

Yea I love the build up to it but I always find that on the night before I get a strange feeling that I don't want to go.

If it's been a really good holiday, I also get a similar feeling the night before leaving where I don't want to go back home :)

Well you can get to very cheap parts of Spain, which is probably where theyre going. All the costa del type places
I rememebr in 6th year I spent 150 euro in magaluf for my one week holiday, that was when i was barely even being conscious of money! Alcohol is dirt cheap, food very cheap if you look around a bit, accommodation places were ****holes but cheap. And well most EU flights can be gotten fairly cheap as well

Hate the planning, packing and travel part. Once I've landed and checked in I'm happy.

I LOVE holidays! Going to Indonesia in 2 weeks, can't wait.

Love the planning part. I spend hours online researching accommodation and places to go. Never been on a package holiday, would hate it I'd say. I like to choose exactly where I want to stay and where to go. And usually stay in a few different places if it's longer than a week.

Don't mind the travel part either. I enjoy that too. :o

My favourite is trying all the different types of food. Don't know how this could not be enjoyable. I also like to go do a lot of walking up mountains etc.

I can imagine it would probably be different if you had kids. Wouldn't be very relaxing... Saying that I travelled all around Europe when I was a young kid and my parents say they enjoyed it. Can't remember much, but have plenty of photos. My parents first took me on a plane when I was a few days old, bit much really.

Last real holiday was over ten years ago. Just going around south America doing whatever the we wanted for 6 months. Holidays with kids are nowhere near as enjoyable, you're very limited in where you can go and what you can do.

Gosh, this thread is making me see another side to not having kids I never appreciated before :pac:

    Why I like holidays;

Excitement of looking forward to going somewhere new
Chilling at the airport before the flight with a couple of beers
Living for a week without having to go to work
Eating different food at different times
    Waking in a strange room
    Nice weather

I think you're looking at it the wrong way, OP
Airports are the worst! They've kept me on this island for the past 4 years. I'd like to see other countries but I hate airports!

I think I want to travel by ferry. Or maybe I'll get the train to Castlebar...

I love holidays. I did a lot of city breaks until recently, last year and this year is sun holidays. Being warm & cosy and going to water parks, it's new for me and great craic.
    I love seeing new places

I love my job but I love my time off even more.

Was in Vegas a few weeks ago with the girlos. Weird place, not sure I'd go back but had fun and enjoyed the spectacle of it all. Readjusting to sleep when I got back was a killer but ho hum, it was worth it IMO.

I was off last week and am still off this week too. Had another long haul holiday planned but a few things went askew and the thought of it was causing me major anxiety so I cancelled it and am farting round the country for the fortnight instead and loving it. Absolutely the right decision.

Last week I was up the mountains, in the woods, swam in the sea, SUP'd on a lake in a glacial valley, spent time with my parents, my friends, their babas, then came back to Dublin to throw away my disposable income on brunch and booze. This week already I've had a fab sleep-in and been up the Dublin mountains and it's only Monday!

You don't HAVE to want to go away or do anything you don't want to do in your time off but it is important that you do take some time off to recharge your batteries. If all you want to do is potter round your house and lie on in your own bed every morning, that's absolutely fine.
