yeah I have that at the moment trying to play FFX on the Vita. If it's sunny it's nigh on possible. Vita has no way of changing brightness as far as I can tell. Remember playing the Resistance Vita game actually and even in a sunless cell I couldn't play certain sections 'cos I couldn't see anything.

If the game is full of colour (Resogun / DotT / Grim Fandango) there's no issue. Darkest Dungeon just isn't optimal for the Vita's small screen. Might pick it up on Steam for the full screen experience.

F**k playing it on the Vita. Controls are abysmal and the game keeps crashing and doesn't seem to Autosave like on PC/PS4 so you can do a whole dungeon and have it crash before you get back to the hamlet :(

Game is 10x better on PC to be blunt, but if PS4 is your only choice, well the price is good and the game is great. JCD was saying the PS4 controls are ok, but only so-so. The Vita is a bit of a mess and I rage quit due to the constant crashing and losing progress

yep they are a bit counter intuitive at times and feel shoe horned into the ps4 from pc but the spirit of the game is there for a tenner its a must have game.

its a game that you keep coming back to, its a bit of a palllette cleanser.

Breezed through a medium mission with my A Squad and I mean breezed through. Completed but decided to camp to deal with a little stress rather than pay for it in the Hamlet. Got ambushed and my leper got killed.

One of my favourite things about the game is the voice-over. Really brings a sense of ... futility? to the game. Really excellent.

One of the modes makes you need to complete the game in 86 weeks with 13 deaths or less. If you don't it launches a thing called "The Thing" which ends your game and deletes the save file.
    I mean c'mon.

    Yep he's really really good.

Apparently he does some audio books for lovecraftian type horror books.
Not really my kind of genre of interest in terms of books but I'm going to get a few just for the car for long drives.

Just don't do it.... The stress alone in trying to brute Force dungeons that quick..... Shudder

Everybodys Golf out in late August. Destiny 2 arrives in early September. I may as well quit work now and get it over with.
Anyone get an external hard drive for the PS4 and if so how is it working - does it make much difference? Still deleting games from the hard drive and it's annoying but not in the end of the world type of stuff.

    Not really in this case.

Rent would be less than half of what we are paying now and actually a little closer to work. Also, the house is amazing. I'd absolutely love to live there - broadband being maybe crap is the only mark against it. Would only (hopefully) be a temp move while we save a bit for a mortgage. Just the road it is on seems to have crap broadband for half the road.

Her Nan lives on the same road and the internet in her house is crap - like nearly useless - though it could be down to the line specifically into her (very very old) house. The house we'd be moving to is a relatively new build (6 years old or so?) so might have got a proper line ran in but the house it is built behind (built on neighbors land) doesn't get any love on the Virgin Media availability check. Eir seem to say they have options for it but I don't know for certain.

Given the rent would be a little under half of what we pay now I'm not sure my cries of 'but my gaming!?' would go down well.

I'd live in a shack as long as it had good internet.

Anyone know if Three mobile broadband is any use?

According to their coverage map I can get 4G coverage where I will be. €70 for 250GB a month. Would probably be grand for most months - unless a load of games come out!

What kind of speeds is the line checker on the eir site giving you?

If you know the phone number try this one and see what it says: http://www.digiweb.ie/line-checker/

I don't know if there is a landline in the house currently so I can't check based on number.

I wouldn't put too much faith in that. We moved last Novemebr. Checked the line speed: UPTO 90 Mb. Installed it: An unstable mess on the UpTo 90 profile. Have had to drop it back to a 55 profile. Old house, which is an older house, has better broadband. The line into the house, or the wiring in the house is crap. If it was mine I'd probably get it re wired.

Found a number of the house...

    Digiweb returns nothing.
Virgin Media (off address) returns nothing.
Eir say speeds up to 90mb.
    Vodafone say up to 100mb.

I am.... not sure! Generic is well used to checking this stuff. I'll simply employee him to sort out the best option.

Virgin run their own infrastructure. Their coverage (install base) is crap. And if they are in your area, they may only offer the TV package.

If your getting results on Eir, no harm in checking Vodafone and Sky deals. They run off the Eir lines, use their own installers. I'd be surprised if you don't get at least 30/40 Mb. Ring Eir directly, tell them the situation and they'll check the line there and then. If they come back with UpTo 90, I'd be fairly confident you'll get something usable.

  • Administrators, Computer Games Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,833 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Mickeroo

You're looking pretty good then. Eir, Sky and vodafone will be the same speed as it's the same lines. I'd probably go with vodafone if I was you since they're a bit cheaper than eir if I'm not mistaken. All the compaines are crap to deal with though if there's any issues or you want to cancel so good look there.

If it says up to 90mb you "should" be getting close to that, have a look at where the fibre cabinet is on the maps on the eir website, you should be pretty close to it if you're getting those speeds.

As solvable said though it's not 100% reliable. I went though the whole goose chase about a year ago and my house said speeds up to 7mb, when i got it installed I got 60mb. I kind of expected that though as all the neighbours get those kinds of speeds. Since I got the install the line checkers all say up to 60mb and I generally get 50+ all of the time.

What Solvable and Mick said. I don't have the luxury of choosing between any of those providors as you need to have an Eir line originally. Tbh, Anything around 20mbs is fine for most use. Anything above that can just be a nice extra but not noticed unless you downloading stuff to keep, and even at that, it'll only take 10-20 mins most times so hardly the end of the world. You'll be "grand" if you use one of the providors using Ericoms lines, but it might cr@p the bed occasionaly. Maybe go which whatever one doesn't lock you into using their very own router thingy

Darkest Dungeon seems to be affecting my language in real life. I've used aforementioned, hyberbolic and obtuse in sentences this week. My speech is not normally so flowery. My boss had to google obtuse.
