    I was thinking the same. Although I would also count Scott Weiland as well.

    Anyway rest in peace Chris Cornell.

    Yeah, forgot about Scott that was a real shame also. Great front man.

    RIP. Unique voice.

    I think he also made a huge contribution to the reboot of Bond. Great, great them song that helped dragged the series into modern times.

    Rip Chris Cornell

    Favourite musician of mine ever, totally gutted. 3 kids who were obviously devoted to him too judging by the numerous twitter photos and so on. Very sad.
    Will be remembered fondly for his unique voice, but he was one hell of a lyricist too. Many of his songs read like poems.

    "And on I read until the day was gone;
    And I sat in regret of all the things I've done;
    For all that I've blessed, and all that I've wronged.
    In dreams until my death I will wander on.

    In your house I long to be;
    Room by room, patiently,
    I'll wait for you there like a stone.
    I'll wait for you there alone, alone."

    Shocking news. He was the soundtrack to my teenage years. Incredible voice.

    Cause of death hasn't been determined/released yet.

    Cause of death hasn't been determined/released yet.

    A few articles seem to be popping up online from news sources in and around Detroit suggesting the same thing. What an incredible talent gone absolutely far too young. RIP

    Didn't warm to Soundgarden initially in my youthful years (bar obvious singles), but revisited them after hearing Europhia Morning & Audioslave just because his voice was so strong, and so very unique.

    Had the awkward pleasure of meeting him once in 2009, while working in a guest services job in Canada. Was kinda dumbstruck and didn't pluck up the courage to ask him for an autograph, or even ask him anything.
    (He wasn't a very good snowboarder)

    His new song for "The Promise" is really good, great showcase of his vocal talent.

    RIP.

    Just reading about this now. Stunned!

    I'd still put Superunknown in my top ten albums of all time. It's quality blows me away each time I listen to it and it has since I was a teenager: no bad songs!

    Chris Cornell was one of the greatest singers in the history of rock, no question. Say Hello 2 Heaven makes the hairs stand up on the back my neck, especially the climax, when his voice finds another gear and he absolutely belts it out. What a song - so sincere and powerful. Unfortunately I can't find a single video on youtube that does it justice, so here's something else

    The man was a demigod during Soundgarden's heyday. Singing power out this world, but not only that, he was an outstanding songwriter to boot, most of Soundgarden's best songs were written by him, usually alone. And he was a handsome bastard too. On more than one occasion I've thought about how awesome it must have been to have been Chris Cornell during those years. The man had so much talent.

    Rest in peace Chris, your music has meant a lot to me during the years and I can't believe you are gone.

    i think that's all my favorite grunge band lead's dead now 8-( 52 feck r.i.p

    I'll be pretty shocked if it was suicide as he seemed to have got past the worst points in his life - divorce, drugs/drink, Soundgarden splitting up - and got to a place where he was happy. He seemed more relaxed and content in recent interviews than he's ever been - successful solo career, new Soundgarden material coming up, happy marriage and devoted kids.

    But I guess you never truly know what's going on in someone's head.

    Grunge - one of my favourite genres of music but has been plagued by depression and addiction.
    Such incredible music has been released by the 5 main grunge bands and unfortunately only one frontman is still with us.

    Such a shock :(

    Audioslave was my gateway into Soundgarden and Alice in Chains when I was young and every since I've been a huge fan of his work, especially his solo albums. I'm thankful that I got to see him perform in Dublin more than once.

    Listening to late Soundgarden today, his death now and the suspicions around it really highlight the troubles he/the band faced around that time.

    For his family's peace of mind, I hope it wasn't suicide. The sudden death of a loved one is bad enough without that extra layer on top of it.

    He was a massive influence in my life, emotionally and musically. He wrote and composed so many great songs that resonated within me.

    **** sakes, that's terrible news. :( The man was a great vocalist.

    Easily one of the best rock singers of all time.

    Rumours that it's suicide, I really hope not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,423 ✭✭✭✭Outlaw Pete

    Man there's some disproportionate amount of lead singer deaths in bands of that genre.

    Shannon Hoon the first I remember being shocked by.. but was much too young to take it in.

    Was more a fan of him with Temple of the Dog than any of his other stuff, fcuking love Hunger Strike.

    Hope Eddie performs it on June 9th.

    RIP.

    Was and am still in shock over this, haven't listened too Soundgarden in a while but always loved their music, I can remember seeing Black hole sun's video on mtv every morning before school and thinking what a weird but cool video, I really love that era of music, Alice in chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl jam, Mud honey, Mad season, to name a few. R.I.P Chris.

    "The robin in the garden,

    That was me,

    I'm still here, Loving you..

    Until we meet again. "
