Aer Lingus Missing bag

Hi guys, I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and has actually received compensation from Aer Lingus. Next Friday my bag will have been missing for 21 days. My bag was supposed to be a cabin bag but when I got to the door of the plane I was told there was no room for my bag (which I found unusual as there were about 3 free rows of seats.) It was taken from me to put in with the checked on bags. However, it seems to have totally disappeared and it doesn't look like I'll be getting it back.

I rang today to make sure that I had everything in order to make a claim next week and was told then that I would need receipts to claim (which obviously I don't have for everything.) has anyone been in a similar situation and actually received compensation? I lost a lot of good stuff and I'm afraid I'll be left totally out of pocket.

Why have you waited 3 weeks? Did you have travel insurance? Unfortunately if not, the amount they will compensate will be quite small

You have to wait 3 weeks as until that point it is only regarded as delayed and not lost. No I didn't and normally I would take out short term cover but given that I expected to bring the bag onto the plane I didn't think I needed to. Have you had experience of this before? The worth of my contents is about 500 euro

Cabing luggage going into the hold is common practice now and happens on almost every short haul flight.
It's really unfortunate that your bag went missing, sorry to hear it happens must be a total pain dealing with that.
The fact it was taken at the door when boarding would suggest to me it may have been lost on arrival, as it wouldn't have gone through the departure airports baggage processing and should have gone straight into the hold. It may be lost in Dublin or whichever you're arrival airport was. Hopefully it will be found.
I assume you have issues a formal baggage complaint with aer lingus and have received a ref: number ?
