I thought the opposite last night.
Unless his bag is full of lob wedges...

The fact we are both thinking differently is probably part of the problem. He fluctuates so much it cant be helpful

His strength and conditioning guy is with him in the US last week and this week so I'm sure he's not neglecting that aspect of the game.

He evidently is!! He is at least 3-4 stone overweight!! That is undeniable. Maybe his strength and conditioning man is a yes man!!

We got over the weight issue last year, lets move on again.

Shane is the best example I've ever seen of the theory that "the camera adds 10lbs"... on tv, Shane looks, to me, almost grotesquely overweight... in person, he has a pretty average physique. Almost unrecognisable.

Well there's more than 10lbs between grotesquely overweight and average physique but I take your point as I know someone who is long and slim in person and can look chunky in photos.

Optical illusions aside Shane is definitely overweight.

Just took a really bad double on 18. Will struggle to make the cut from here.

Shane and his missus had their first child in the past two months or so, I'm sure. With the nature of his day-job - travel, then need for constant, sustained practice etc - that probably means you can almost write off at least the first half of this season, in fairness.

Writing of 6 months can end up like poulter. Tour card in threat and you fall down the world rankings.

I think he needs to play in Europe for a while to get his game back as very inconsistent at the moment which won't get you anywhere on PGA tour

Just to clarify, I of course wasn't suggesting Shane himself will have written off six months. But I just think it's inevitable that he will struggle for a while. First kid, huge change in your life. Most punters' golf games struggle! :)

Shane Lowry gave a very techy interview to RTE 's Greg Allen about his putting after his second round in the BMW PGA Championship. When asked a very straightforward question by Allen about you need a good weekend on the greens to contend his reply was that he was sick of people telling him that he was a bad putter and I'm working so hard on my putting and so on.

I feel that Lowry thinks that the whole world is against him as regards people's feelings towards him on several issues including his putting. However stats from the PGA Tour reflect that his putting needs more improvement. He is 166th in Putting average and 205th in the three putt avoidance and 182nd on putts per round, all this season.

Personally I feel Lowry needs a full-time putting coach outside of his swing coach Neil Manchip. It is clearly holding him back as everything else in his golf game is very good. Finally is it just me but is Lowry a tough guy to get on with. I was disappointed in him in last year's Irish Open at the K Club when he was in very bad form with the fans and rarely signed autographs for them. Anyone with any thoughts on this will be most welcome.

Met Shane at the afters of a classic event a while back (he played in it). A nicer fella you couldn't meet. Dead sound, no airs and graces whatsoever. I'd say a very easy guy to get on with. Maybe just has an issue with so called experts picking over his supposed weaknesses..... I guess that's part of it all. Doesn't mean he has to like it. He's just honest in his reactions. Can be grumpy myself when it's not going well. Usually no journalists interested though, for some reason.

Paul McGinley adds nothing to golf commenrary.

    Stock cliché for every golfer.

Everytime Lowry missed a putt the last 2 days McGinley was straigth in there with the "Shane has been struggling with the putting this year" line.

If I was Lowry and I'd been working my nuts off on my putting and this was the guff I was hearing anytime I was interviewed after a round I'd lose my cool as well.

Was a huge McGinley fan when he was on Tour. But he's nothing short of abysmal in the commentary box. Cliched, by-the-numbers rubbish in horrid clipped tones... then again, that's the kinda guy Sky Sports love!

Sky golf takes bland to a new level but McGinley's insights into the design changes at Wentworth are interesting.

I'm surprised at this. Have people really been telling him he's a bad putter and going on about it?? I presume he means journalists/media etc - I haven't seen a whole lot about it I must say.

Couldn't agree more. Had the pleasure of meeting him two years ago. Camera does him no favours at all. Hes a gent also.

Drive out of bounds on 15.....that could be that.

Watching his demeanour he really looks like he's not enjoying the game anymore. Even when he had four birdies in a row he didn't look particularly excited.

I think we've seen with Shane what the professional game can do to even the most happy go lucky individual.

Nice eagle to finish a disappointing back 9.

What sort of cheque will he get for this?

Disappointing in the end, but a top ten at last, which should help his confidence.

Great to get eagle on 18 to get back into the top 10 , good world ranking points on offer this week as well , hopefully its a sign that things are improving for him and he can push on for rest of year .

Didn't he win the Bridgestone last time he had a good showing at Wentworth? I remember him being interviewed at the end of that season and he put the BMW down as the catalyst for his good season.
    Here's hoping...
