Folded like a deck chair again. I really like and admire him but find him so frustrating to watch at times. Hope it doesn't get into his head again like the last time. Be great to see him contend this summer.

Up 7 places in the world rankings, to 69 this morning. Thank goodness he's halted the slide.

Wasn't the only one, seems like once word came through that Noren had posted a score pressure came on a mistakes happened. Eagle on the last was nice but certainly will go down as one that got away.

Jeasus lads, I know we all like to get into the analysis... Shano is doing a great job at keeping us all entertained. He's been up with the leaders in a few tournaments lately & we're all aware that a win is just around the corner... So go easy on him... everyone has their own temperament, tempo & way of going about things. I have to be honest, Shane is my favourite athlete right now.

Any sign of him at the Memorial? -4 at start of the day.

Dropped 3 in the first 12 so back to -3 and T25.

Shane seems to fall away on a Sunday in most tournaments these days. Its frustrating as he gets himself into contention in sonmany competitions. Needs to up his stamina. Looks like he is tired. The traveling doesn't help either which is why he should make it a priority to get more in shape.

Kids will do that. Making the cut is good stuff where he is in life imo.

He took 3 weeks off shortly after the masters and since then has played 4 made 3 cuts, a top 10, a top 20 and a top 25, so it's not all doom and gloom.
I think missing the cut at the players was a poor result, but otherwise his game looks in decent shape

The form is alright coming into the US Open at least. Of all the Majors, the US Open should probably he his worst given how punitive the set up usually is but he's 2 top 10 finishes in last 2 years at it

So why should it be his worst?

A great ball striker who can shape ball play well in wind and has a very versatile game having won on links and us style .

Shane can win on anything If putting well .

So not sure your point and your own stats disprove it.

My point was it's surprising though maybe his accuracy stays prove me wrong.

On his game he's definitely capable but I just feel like an ok day he misses fairways a bit and the US Open usually punishes that. Maybe I'm completely wrong though. I was just surprised it was his best major.

I'd love him to win it.

He definitely has one or two bad drives in a round, but most do. I'd say he's becoming more like a Lee Westwood. Hitting fairways and greens for the most part, which is probably making his putting look a bit worse than it actually is.

I don't have the stats either so I could be wrong but that's just the impression I get from following shot tracker and on seeing him occasionally on tv or on the course.

Historically it is his putting, but looking at the 2017 PGA stats he is competitive in all areas except "SG around the green".

All that aside, he's made almost 600k this year in the US

We don't have too many golfers over Irish golf history that you have to have a think what major he is best for.

We have maybe on one hand, golfers that could take part both sides of the Atlantic.

Even our best amateurs tend to be on the European tour and maybe at the lower end of that tour, maybe 1 in 10 (?) of our best young players get onto any tour.

When someone comes along like Shane - cherish them when they are around - because they are few and very very far between.

I wasn't trying to be critical at all, by the way. Just thought the US Open was the tournament where he would be least likely to be successful but the stats don't back that up.

He's not just an Irishman with the ability to do it at the highest level but an Offalyman with the ability to do it at the highest level; of course I cherish him! :)

I'd have thought the US open is suited best for him. He's not really a player that will shoot lights out (66s) all weekend, but he is a grafter who will make pars without blowing up, as the US open tends to be.

A lot of the field grew up with / much prefer courses where 66 can be shot all weekend. That's a big factor in it too.

I think Shane not getting it done last few weekends is down to simply hasn't been there for a while so lacking match fitness. Pressure mounts as if it's been a while the pressure can be bigger. All pros go through it.

Do it a few times and he'll cross the line.

I don't see Shane's name on the time sheet for st Jude.

Would anyone know if he's still stateside or has he come home before the US Open?

Not on his schedule on his website

In Connemara. I'd prefer him in states. This hoping back and forward to states can't be good even in the front row

Yeah it's not how I'd be living his life but each to their own!

Hopefully go one better this year at Erin hills!

Shane is having a torrid time in France. +8 overall.

Early weekend for him to practice for next week

Finished 9 over. That won't have helped his chances of a Ryder Cup pick.

Darren Clarke finished 18 over but I don't think he is taking it very seriously these days

ryder cup is next year so no matter what anyone does this year will get them a pick.

Clarke gave up taking golf serious after winning the open

You think the captain won't notice how someone played on the Ryder Cup course?

    Fair point

I was expecting Shane to play well this and coming weeks

I think Shane has had his 12-18 month spell in the sun, like so many guys very very few of them can sustain that level for much longer. Jamie Donaldson, Victor Dubisson(poor spelling)Jason Day and Danny Willet are just a few who spring to mind, who are in much the same boat as Lowry. They may get a decent finish or two but it's unlikely they'll reach their former ranking again. Still better to have been than never was which is where most guys on the tour are.
