    Decent backup regime and at worst you lose a days work. If your working on anything important then as suggested, hourly backups to a USB stick.

    Worst case, if you really need the data, put the HD into a caddy and give admin access to the drive from another. What ever you do don't open the same file that caused the incident or you'll have bricked two HD's.

    I've no Caddy, but I do have a slightly rusty Transit. I've put the HD into that. Thanks for the tip. Is it the metal van body that protects the data?
