Car SOS - new tv prog.

I have only seen the episode with the Jeep, which was ok. I was a little bit disappointed though, as it follows the same format as many others, with much of the emphasis being placed on background info, owners profile, etc. in an attempt to appeal to the largest possible audience. Wheeler Dealers is about the most straightforward (although a little contrived at times) programme in this category.

My all time favourite would have been "A car is reborn" when Mark Williams restored an E Type Jag. It followed the whole process in great detail, over a whole series, as opposed to cramming it into 30 minutes.

Don't get me started on Top Gear! It's all well and good reviewing the latest offering from Masseratti or puttting two supercars head to head on a disused airport runway, but it doesn't really apply to me, as I don't have €400,000 to spend (or whatever they cost) Then there are the three stooges presenting it..........................................

I would like to see a genuine resto/repair programme, dealing with real, everyday cars and potential, affordable classics. Genuine reviews, outlining known issues and fixes. But that's just me. I think there's way too much "reality" TV about at the moment, most of it very far removed from any reality that I've ever known. It's a pity to drag potentially interesting and informative TV down into the same bottomless pit of mindless mental bubblegum.

Just my thoughts, but then, I'm biased!!!

Mark Williams had an excellent series called wreck rescue where he spent each episode with a budding restorer and there project. I was particularly impressed by the girl who put that pile of frogeye sprite shaped rubbish back together! Car SOS is ok. I have seen both programmes to date. Almost 20 out of the total 40 minutes is given over to non-tecnical/car related content.

Its a pity really as other programmes dealing with specialised sports and hobbies seem to devote more of the content on the activity itself. The fishing programmes are a good example. Maybe thats because they have a wider viewer fanbase to begin with so they dont have to add all the flannel.

Just after watching both parts of the Frogeye restoration on Wreck Rescue.
That car was in some state to begin with. You have to admire that girls determination to see it through.
Had to smile at her using the big spot welder and when she was lifting on the gearbox. Fair dues to her.

And that's your opinion, which you are entitled to have and to express.In the same way that I expressed the opinion that for the most part, the quality of these programmes is questionable. DIY, fishing, model making, model railways etc. are all catered for, and catered for with much better content. With so many motorists about, you would think that even a very small interested percentage would justify better presentation and content, but instead, the producers have gone for the mass audience, giving us 30 minutes of programming with about 10 (or less) minutes of worthwhile content.

PS. Expressing an opinion is far removed from "pissing and moaning"

I know what you're saying and yes, Top Gear can be entertaining in it's own particular way, but I would just like to see something a bit more genuinely informative and realistic. "Three men in a boat" doesn't pretend to be about boating, it's about three entertaining, amusing guys tootling about in a boat. So maybe Top Gear should be renamed "Three guys messing about with cars etc."

I suppose, bottom line is, I'd just like to see more genuine restorations/fixes etc. For slapstick I'll stay with Curly, Larry and Moe.

On sax a chap called Mark chico Hamilton.

Their original sax player from the 80s Saxa died tuesday. But he was 87. Ranking said he was at their show in Birmingham last weekend.

They are all in Belfast tonight.

Great 3 hour gig. Can't go wrong with a bit of ska and especially friday night.
