Microwave button gone

The start button on my integrated microwave has gone. It seems to be the spring behind the button as it just doesn't move when pressed.

It is about 10 years old and was quite expensive originally (over 800€) - it is a brand called Kuppersbusch. Is it worth getting someone out to fix it or am I better off getting a new one?

How standardised are the spaces for integrated microwave ovens and would it be easy to fit myself?

Thanks - would that be an easy fix if I had the part? (i.e. could I do it myself)?

Seems uneconomical to get someone out given the costs where I live, but at the same time would be a shame to throw this away for such a small fault.

No idea, I suppose it would depend on your own skills etc.

Might be an idea to look for a YouTube video of someone repairing one?

    Here: http://www.microtechfactoryservice.com/safety.html

Like Big TVs of old, microwaves may contain a high-voltage capacitor that can give a very nasty shock if not discharged.

There is no radiation risk working on an unplugged microwave, it's only generating microwave radiation while cooking. The risk comes from not putting the device back together properly, microwave radiation may bleed out while cooking. There's no "glowing green" risk here, but it's just generally not recommended - cell damage can be slow and long-term.

If you can get at the button mechanism without having to tear the whole appliance apart, you'll be fine.
