    I tend to live by

"99% of the fish are in 1% of the water"

referring to learning to read rivers, lakes and seas for probable locations of fish. it really is the best advice / slogan ive ever gotten in relation to fishing and I always repeat it to myself when things get tough!

    Others of note!

    Tim Palmer

"Dead fish indicate that trouble for people is not far behind."

    Thomas McGuane

"In the future, I mean to be a fine streamside entomologist. I’m going to start on that when I am much too old to do any of the two thousand things I can think of that are more fun than screening insects in cold running water!"

The fish don't read the same books you do.

“Somebody behind you while you are fishing is as bad as someone looking over your shoulder while you write a letter to your girl.”

Good things come to those who wade.

    It's called fishing, not catching.

A bad day fishing is better than a good day in the office.

Old fishermen never die, they only smell that way.

Watching a guy cast back and forwards over a dozen times per cast, while on the river this morning, I was reminded of something my late uncle used to say to me back in the 50s....you won't catch fish if the fly's not in the water.

Fish won't be caught if the hook is not in the water

Best times for fishing, an hour before and after high tide. Always works for me at Clogher head
