Scrapped car & motor tax - any action needed?

I sent my old car for scrap, and have the Certificate of Destruction (dated about 7 weeks ago), and the insurance transfer done & dusted.

I got an NCT reminder yesterday for the scrapped car. I'd guess it's safe to ignore that, but it reminded me to find out if there's anything I have to do about its motor tax? (Or anything else, apart from putting the destruction cert in my file?)

I tried to find out at the time (on the web & asking around), but gave up (maybe it's one of rhose things that 'everybody' knows!).

If you have tax for more than 3 months when you scrap car then you can get tax back.
If you don't have long tax left on it, just leave it. They will stop sending you notices.

Thanks biko! Good to know I can sling that file out of the way now. (Via our paperwork glory-hole, that is; I forget to clear it annually as I meant to, so it's like having an undelete button just in case!).

There was only 5 weeks' tax left on it, as I'd only done it for 3 months (with the test coming up, and being very lucky to get it passed in recent years!).
