Looking at car adverts

If I had 8k cash, would I be crazy to go look at a car being advertised at '9k ono'?
Would you ring the seller & say the cash you had & see if they were interested?
Or just go view & then try negotiate?
Would I be better just selecting cars under 8k in your criteria?

Nobody sensible does business over the phone.

I also would not expect a seller to drop a whole grant from €9k price. Bear in mind you should put around €500 for 'starter pack' - that leaves you with €7500, so look for cars under €8k, and agree to pay a bit over €7k.

Anything advertised 10% above your budget could reasonably be considered worthwhile to enquire about and go see. What cars are you looking at

If your buying from a garage and don't have a trade in then I'd be looking at cars in the 9/9.5k bracket as dealers price their cars a little high to allow for a cash discount and haggling. You need to research asking prices first as some dealers will price their cars more competitively than others so will not offer as much off them as others.

I'm allowing a 'service fund' for anything I buy.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll go 10% above budget when selecting the criteria and see what shows.

I'd like to buy from a dealer just to have some peace of mind spending that kind of money.
No trade, just 8k cash in hand.

I always go €1000-1500 higher than the budget when searching. There is no harm in asking and if a dealer or private seller has a car that's been for sale for quite a while they might be more inclined to drop more just to get rid of it.

No harm looking at stuff over budget, in DD you can favourite cars you like but are over budget.
Check them in 2-3 weeks and if they are stil up it's worth ringing and offering a lower price but still sensible, nobody appreciates lads offering silly money either.
