He could do with a few minutes reading the manual, the car doesn't use the speakers for the fake sound, it's the soundaktor at the bottom of the windscreen.
He also mentioned he wanted more sound, again rtfm, all can be adjusted in individual mode.

I've had mine set to "Eco" for a good while now through the individual settings. Tried the Race setting there during the week and I had to toggle it off again after 30 seconds. It's way too much racket!!

I've never used eco, I use race and comfort mostly.

Not the Eco mode itself (that's crap as it also dulls the throttle response). I'm talking about the sound actuator. I've that set to Eco.

Ah yes, I don't mind the sound of it so I left it at the factory setting.

My soundaktor has been disabled since the day I got my OBDeleven. I have no time for that drone and the fact it makes the car sound like a diesel inside in low gears at low but rising rpm, so basically every time you move off!

I also prefer listening to the sound of the induction/exhaust, but again that's a bit of horses for courses.

    Bob is great craic.

I have subscribed to his channel because it's Irish but really don't rate him.
He doesn't really do a review a lot of the time. He seems to get cars from the importers, drive them and sometimes give his musings.
I guess if you say too much negative you don't get another car and stop getting invites to launches etc.

I have an Ibiza Cupra with the 1.8TSI. i had the parcel shelf out and the seats down the other day. I noticed at wide open throttle there is more exhaust noise. It's not the soundaktor. It's coming from the back of the car. Guessing it also had a butterfly valve system to make more noise when you press the loud pedal fully. Is this in the GTI?

The sound-actuator is at the base of the windscreen, underneath the plastic scuttle panel under the wipers. You were hearing the exhaust. It's amazing how much more you hear from the back end when the parcel shelf is out / seats folded.

I agree, you won't learn too much from Bob but like you I subscribe because he's Irish and he can be entertaining on and off.

If you want blander than bland reviews, Irish "journos" are specialists in the field. Such as this one for example: http://m.independent.ie/life/motoring/car-reviews/licence-to-thrill-volkswagens-golf-r-is-a-very-grownup-hot-hatch-35642001.html

I'd say it is, good gains to be seen with Revo these days.
The clubsport gains 100bhp on stage one software

MyGti's original post indicates a Revo remap

.... I am the owner of a beautiful mk7 gti,
12000km on the clock the car has never missed a beat so far...I had mine on the dyno in December it put out 234bhp, that's fast. In February I got a revo remap . AMAZING, it's where I think the gti should be...

So from 234 to 311 is pretty damn decent for presumably a Stage 1 map.

Hi there, sorry for just joining in on your convo, I am the owner of a beautiful mk7 gti,

It's a fantastic car to drive , handles the standard power no problem through the front wheels.but to be honest rearwheel drive is more fun.I had mine on the dyno in December it put out 234bhp, that's fast. In February I got a revo remap . AMAZING, it's where I think the gti should be. Golf's are a solid car , cabin has everything where it should be. Bucket seats are excellent. Mine puts a smile on my face everyday.

    That's nothing..

    That yours Neil?
What real world difference does it make, apart from making the engine bay look marginally nicer?

That could be anyone's engine bay :p

It's needed for Revo stage 2 software, well it, a panel filter and intake hose are, plus downpipe and intercooler.
    Should see around 400bhp then.

Great increase. I was at their stall at dubshed and enquired about going stage 1. There's only two authorised dealers in Ireland afaik.. How's the clutch holding up?

The Revo kit looks nice alright and the carbon fibre element is always attractive for engine bays, but I prefer the Racingline effort for OEM look and nearly all-in-one solution (their high-flow rear hose comes separate).

Has anyone heard anything about a release date for the Performance pack GTi here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 147 ✭✭st332

No word yet, awaiting a response from my local dealer.
Someone in the UK GTI forum thought they would be released in the UK yesterday, but no word there either.

There is pricing on Drive the Deal:
    https://www.drivethedeal.com/buy-a-new-car/VOLKSWAGEN/GOLF%20HATCHBACK/index.html

The above indicates a £1115 cost adder for performance pack on DSG 3 and 5 door models and £1060 cost adder for performance pack on Manual 3 and 5 door. The DSG gains an extra gear with the performance pack, which might explain it being priced higher.
I'd expect a cost of around €1300-€1500 here.

That's a similar premium to the Mk7. I wouldn't be surprised if it was even a bit more than that given the new higher VRT rate for the GTi & GTi PP.

I'd seen on the UK GTi forum that DTD are offering a 15% discount on someone's PP configuration. That's a massive discount and one that I assume we could only dream of getting over here.
