To whom does he owe anything, seriously?

I just find it odd that a man known for his generosity and taking people who are in dire straits out of unbearable financial and stressful situations would not throw a bone to the acting community in Ireland, where the same pool of actors appear in tv shows/movies etc over and over again. It was a great opportunity to launch some new faces. Even hiring a few family members is pretty normal but Christ, he has everyone including his bloody cat on the show.

Certainly not a fan of it and would turn it off in a heartbeat but different strokes for different folks.

Admire Brendan O'Carroll for what he's done and made his millions from being next to broke a number of years back. As a poster above mentioned, he's made a successful show out of it alongside his family.

Watched him on Graham Norton last night and came across very well, good on him

Brendan O'Carroll a creepy crossdresser

The only thing, I can think of that would be less funny than "Mrs Brown's Boys" is Brendan O Carroll not being "Mrs Brown".

Ok, I kinda lied, Jason Byrne exists.

I never understand why people hate things so much that they want everyone else to hate it too.

I mean, I think that tipping point show is crap, and I can't understand why people enjoy the soaps, but I can't imagine hating anything so much that I would give it further thought than just.....not watching them.

Totally agree, could be because he's Irish and we hate to see our own do well and be successful.

Very few successful Irish we have a universal positive opinion on

You see a lot of it on the radio forum on this website. Cranks who genuinely seem to despise the medium of radio, yet listen to shows just so they can complain about them.

It's extremely strange.

If only I had a euro for every time I saw someone complain about it on here.

You could pay them all to not make the show.

Les Dawson did it a lot better imo....

Brits love it when Irish people play up like eejits.

And would you still be laughing if he wasn't dressed as a woman?

Well in the 90's when it was on the radio and the follow up books he wasn't dressed as a woman. The character of Mrs Brown was just a woman (B O'C did the voice) on the radio.

Morrisey appeals to loads of people. The Lift he has provided is priceless.

It is what it is (shite, but very popular shite). It's a waste of time trying to understand its popularity.

My thoughts too. Some people like it, that's all there is to it. I think there is hand-wringing because people are afraid it represents what all Irish people find funny. Don't be so insecure, lads!

Nothing like a bit of Morrisey to brighten up a cold wet January morning :pac:

He gave every single member of his family and extended family a job on the show. Well done Brendan, great way to encourage local young actors and actresses by effectively using nepotism to cut off any potentially talented actors and actresses who need their big break and could have been just as good as any of his (many completely lacking experience) family.
A man who seems to help the Joe Duffy poor-me crowd but spits in the face of the acting community.

In fairness, they were mostly all involved when the show was a local hall show and had no money to pay actors.

Would be unfair to say feck off to them when it became popular.

As for popularity - the media is awash with negativity and bad news 24/7, so a show that does not take itself seriously, and it utterly stupid in its delivery (and not ashamed of it), just strikes the right chord for this moment in time.

Personally, I found the first couple of episodes watchable and funny in parts, but turned off last week early and same this week.

But, my tastes would be more black books style (starting now on gold)

Panti is a drag queen, Brendan O'Carroll dresses up as a granny, big difference there.

The difference is Panti would be offended by that ^ and Brendan wouldn't give a sh@te. Ones a cross-dresser, the others a bloke in a dress getting paid.

I've no idea. Ask Panti. I think she's a member here. Everyone else is anyway.
