You cannot buy a new Clubsport now, even if you wanted one. It would have to be one that's already in stock someplace.

It would annoy me a little bit if I had bought one, now that the standard FL GTI has instantly dated it and has copied some of its design cues. You can even spec the same wheels!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 252 ✭✭Hebegeebee

I saw a white manual 5dr CS parked up in Monkstown, Cork last week. It had the belvedere 18" alloys on it and it looked lovely - a spec I could live with and found myself looking online for one. Instead of I'd love to take that for a spin being the first thing that came into my head, it was I'd love to give that a wash, it was that dirty.
Those belvedere alloys are very nice.

Two different cars in many respects, performance wise the Clubsport is the superior model when it comes to power and handling and imo visually looks the sportier model compared to the FL model. The standard Clubsport Belvedere wheels are not an option on the FL GTI, the Brescia's are a option but then they were also just an option on the Clubsport. Glad I went for the Clubsport and not waited for FL GTI as the only MK 7 golf I would replace it with would be the R and certainly not the GTI or the Performance.GTI.

This is the one I met today must be one of the only ones left for sale in the country, that's if it's not sold already

There's a red one down in Cork too. Still on Carzone anyway. And Frank Keane in Dublin has (or had very recently) a silver.

I think the silver one in FK might be gone as its no longer up on Carzone. As for the red one in Blackwater, I wouldn't believe that is still there as they never update their website or carzone.

What's the difference between the clubsport and a gti performance pack bar exterior and interior changes?
I know it has more power and a temporary overboost but has anything else changed?

So apart from all the styling differences and the power/boost?!

Nothing else afaik! What other differences were you thinking of? The CS-S gets the fancier brake setup (and stripped out interior).

I was just curious, people seem to think the cs is something special compared to a gti pp when it's more or less the same.

A bit more straight line performance is the only advantage it has.

The clubsport S is a different animal altogether with many changes to improve handling. I think people a mixing up the two cars.

    I think so too.
But in reality, the CS-S is a rich man's play-thing. Something to go for a blast in when the wife has the Cayman for the day. From following threads over on UK GTI forums, a lot of them were bought up as collectors items - they might see the odd track day but you won't see many of them in the Tesco carpark. Some have already gone up for sale on Pistonheads by deluded owners thinking they can make a handsome profit on this "rare" beast.

It's a pity as it would be nice to see them being used.

The red one which happened to be the first one in the country has been sold some time ago to a customer in Galway I believe.

I know of a lad in Galway who was about to pull the trigger on it (car was all set to be sent up here) and it fell through. So unless someone else around here got it since...

A question on the head unit - does the Discover Pro do anything that the Discover media doesn't (bar the gesture stuff)?
It looks great, but if the €933.71 cost adder just gets you a screen that's a little bigger plus a gesture feature that most reviewers think is useless, it seems like pretty bad value.

Bigger screen. But the standard screen is now the same size as the old "pro".
Built in Hard drive (not so useful these days imo).
You can show maps on both the screen and on the Active dash. Without pro, you can only show maps in one place or the other.
Google earth / street view is built in (I think)

Overall I'd say no, not worth it.

My info comes from the dealer in Cork whom I purchased mine from , been in there a fortnight ago and saw no sign of it, shall pay a visit to them in the morning and get some more info, they also had another 3dr manual white Clubsport which I have not seen for a while also.

I think the Clubsport S is really a track car designed for occasional road use. They stripped it down including removing the back seat to reduce weight. I think they used a bit more carbon fibre in places too.

Certainly there's not that much "mechanical" difference between a standard clubsport and pp gti? I thought they shared the same suspension and brake set up. Would a remapped stage 1 GTI PP not be superior to a non S Clubsport?

Jaysus this performance golf carry on is complicated :)

That would be the exact reason I wouldn't put down the added outlay for a Clubsport. If you bought a PP and put even €1k into it, you'd have a faster car than a stock Clubsport and you wouldn't have paid near to R prices for the privilege.

Yes, the clubsport was/is far too close to Golf R pricing for that kind of outlay. Saying that, I did see 3 carbon grey Clubsports in a dealership in Wexford in January with black pretoria wheels and bucket seats and they looked the dogs nuts.. I believe they were circa 54,000euro each with the options on them

Even better, buy an R, put 2k into it for a remap and front limited slip diff and have the best of everything.

Tbh, the new 9.2 inch screen might be a pain in the backside. Having the extra button for zooming is really handy without looking away from the road trying to hit a point on the screen and it avoids fingerprints too.

On the Passat you can have both maps on Pro and active display at the same time, on mine anyhow.

Yeah the Pro Nav allows it but not the regular standard Nav. Same applies with the new systems in the facelift afaik.

Bob is one annoying reviewer, in fact is he a reviewer at all? I unsubscribed from his channel as he may be craic but I found his review crap.
He picks up a new car every other day so in my view cannot give a proper assessment or indeed knowledge of the car.

He could do with a few minutes reading the manual, the car doesn't use the speakers for the fake sound, it's the soundaktor at the bottom of the windscreen.
He also mentioned he wanted more sound, again rtfm, all can be adjusted in individual mode.
