If the lady really thinks this is the cure, then she does need to face reality that no amount of walks etc will avail and she does need to take her child overseas.

Please God someone helps her to do that and soon.

Absolutely everyone (including Vera) knows it's not a cure so perhaps your patronizing tone could take a rest.

It's disgusting that this woman has to do this. Ffs give her the drugs.
    it's not that simple.

It's ridiculous alright, but hey we live in Ireland, it's hardly surprising...
There are plenty other countries that haven't leagalised cannabis for medical use but don't let that stop you from being an ambassador for Ireland.

You've missed the obvious fact that you can legally get this drug in this country. But don't let that stop you talking out of your arse.

I thought she wanted a high THC oil which is illegal in this country?

Indeed. The child is already prescribed and taking the CBD based "Charlotte's Web" drug. Vera is protesting to obtain a different THC based drug she believes will have a better impact on controlling the child's seizures.
as i understand article states that shes using already cbt high content oil and it has reduced severity of seizures kid is having, but that said many people with that condition think use both thc/cbt extraced oil.Now given how complex cannabis is i think she would have a point in seeking to try full plant version of oil.

now imagine kid would be stoned to some extent as major side effect, but hey if it works for kids in Canada and across US why have different standards here, its not like the kid is having great time as is ,and trying alternatives when having seizure every hours isnt much that will be lost in such cases, thus if mother thinks its worth walking nearly 300km ,for the cause the state should at least let parents legal access which this woman is doing for.

I had sympathy with Ms Twomey until her latest escapade.

"Cork woman Vera Twomey has said that medicinal cannabis she got on prescription for her daughter in Spain has been taken by customs officials at Dublin Airport.

Ms Twomey has been campaigning on behalf of her daughter Ava, who has a rare form of epilepsy, to get access to medicinal cannabis in Ireland.

Yesterday she travelled to Barcelona where she obtained a prescription for cannabis oil.

She was accompanied back on a flight from Spain by PBP TD Gino Kenny and MEP Luke Flanagan.

However, the substance was detained, and she was held by customs officials for about an hour at Dublin Airport.

She described today's events as a complete injustice and said she is not doing anything wrong."

I'm sure she'll lose sleep over that while she is trying to protect her daughters health.

They achieved what they wanted for this publicity stunt.

She had a better chance of getting it through without the other 2 being with her.

Twomey said that she had been told in a meeting with Harris that they needed a consultant neurologist, not just an “Irish registered doctor” to apply for this licence and that, without that, they had no other option.

In effect, Simon Harris could grant a special dispensation for Ava to access her treatment if her neurologist makes an application.

Because that hasn’t happened, Twomey has repeatedly petitioned Harris to take further action and explore different measures to allow Ava access this medication.

Is there no consultant neurologist in Ireland? If there is one, why has he or she not made an application for a dispensation?

You know Customs would have let her through with it.

This was just a stunt to get attention?
    Well it worked I suppose.

I'm not sure I approve of this action by her.

The consultant wasn't willing to apply for one due to a lack of info on medical weed.

That is my feeling too. It looks like she is allowing herself be used. I wish her and her daughter well and hope they get the help they need.

All this while, on the walk etc, who is caring for the child? This must be causing stress which is a bad thing?

By all means fight this, but from a place that is safe for the little one. and the more "attention" of this kind she gets, the more polarised and unyielding the authorities will get. She was told after the walk that it was and is not u p to the govt but to the drs.. and they have now really dug their heels in.

She is defeating her own aims.

That is scary. I know she believes she's doing the best for her child, but allowing Ming and Gino to hi jack her childs illness is, at best, foolish.

She's going on hunger strike from Tuesday, I think she's crying wolf once too often, the media aren't taking any notice of her now.

After Vera collapsing from exhaustion I saw her husband's facebook video update. I think they aren't doing themselves any favours, the law is the law and their recent publicity stunt with custom's was just that.

If that substance does help Vera could have brought it home I feel without declaring it. Having the two politicians with her, what was the point in that? Publicity, and nothing else.

It seems the need to get support & publicity etc has now surpassed the need to get the stuff for her child.

I feel Vera is being manipulated by Ming and Gino, Simon Harris has to keep in mind that an Irish consultant won't apply for a dispensation for this stuff.

If a consultant isn't comfortable with the lack of evidence of effect how can the unqualified Simon Harris make that call?
