Just watching the practice now the torro rosso looks beautiful under the lights.

Also i really really wish they bring back refuelling was looking at few them old clips of f1 and the mystery over who had what fuel on board and strategy I really miss that.

I guess those on-screen graphics from the era of refuelling which would say something like "Kimi Raikkonen - 80 litres - 20 laps" must have been a figment of my imagination. :pac:

I thought they were only guess work, they used time the fuel going in and knew the max flow rate.
They would work our how many litres went in then and figure number of laps

So how long do ye think it will be before the FIA ban the T-wings? I hope its sooner rather than later. They are ugly and dangerous as we seen in the incident in FP2 yesterday.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

The wings on the side pods were banned in 1998 after one came off Alesi's car in the pits and in 2001 Arrows had one in the drivers line of vision banned.

This new one will definitely be next.

It was interesting alright. The highlight was Joe's opinion that Simona de Silvestro was wasted. He reckons she was worth the drive but was hired merely as totty.

No more aside with Joe podcasts.

context, some controversy about bums or something?

context, some controversy about bums or something?

There was a picture of a woman's bum in the Australia edition of GP+ and Mr. C of sidepod felt it was sexist, Joe disagreed. Sidepodcast took their ball and went home. Honestly total storm in a teacup, I find their overreaction ridiculous.

I'd say Alonso in a Renault next year is more likely.

Him or Sainz, or McLaren if they offer him another shot at Indy and Lemans.

I'd take a Renault seat over a shot at Le Mans or the Indy 500 next year.

Alonso is 36 this summer, his F1 career is in its final stages anyway.

I don't see him continuing into his 40's.

Sainz or Grosjean for the second Ferrari seat.

Damn it. Joe was drunk podcasting and made a bit of a fool of himself. I couldn't give a toss about bums and i thought Mr C made a big deal out of nothing. Joe could have just said he was trying to sex magazine up a bit which is obviously what he was doing. Putting attractive people on magazines is a tried and trusted method of sexing things up. Instead he made some cock and bull argument whilst getting drunk and sounded like an idiot.

He always came across as a arzehole but he had some great behind the scenes insights into F1. Why on earth he thought anyone have a toss about his travel arrangements is beyond me.

My interest in sidepodcast has dropped to near zero since hearing Joe won't be on again and I'll probably never but his magazine so I'm unlikely to hear from either Joe or sidepodcast again.

I gave up reading Joe a few years ago, got tired of his attitude that his was the only opinion that mattered. Even worse than Chris Balfe of Pitpass.com.

I get that, I'm deeply ambivalent about Joe. Well, i love his insights and he himself is barely tolerable.

I wonder if he's on the autistic spectrum with a special interest in F1. Just my speculation.

    Aspergers?

His insights are excellent and his book on the drivers during WW2 is well worth a read, but his was the only site where i avoided the comments because of the author and not random commenters.

Completely possible. This is only speculation based on limited information so in that sense it's possible. His special interest in F1 and lack of awareness of the difference between what's extremely interesting and what's extremely boring.

He could just be a pranny

There was a big crash in British F4 earlier. Just seen the clip and it was pretty shocking

Just watched the clip in question, horrific impact. Hopefully the lad makes a full recovery.

It took 2 hours to extract him from the car, he was airlifted to hospital, concious but with severe leg injuries apparently.

So, apparently Honda are pretty decent in Indy car (hence Alonso actually has a decent chance at the Indy 500) but are rubbish in F1, is there anything the Indy engine developers can do to assist the F1 effort?

    This too shall pass.

Jesus, that's a horror crash. Poor guy!

No, the engines are totally different, and F1 engines are made in Japan. The Indy engines (and Lexus engines used in IMSA and PWC) are made by HPD in the US.

Even then the chevy engine is superior there too.

A little bit. Most of the difference has been the aero kits, because HPD let Nick Wirth design theirs without using a wind tunnel.

what version of the Ferrari engine is the Toro Rosso using this year? The Mclaren keeps finding itself battling with Toro Rossos and Saubers and sometimes even Force Indias. Given how far down on power the Honda is, I'm trying to figure out how good the McLaren chassis is. I reckon it must be pretty decent in terms of speed (even though reliability hasn't been brilliant over the last couple of years).

How good do yo think the Mclaren is compared to TR, FI, Renault and Sauber?

TR are using the current version of the Renault engine. I reckon McLaren would be similar to Williams (probably ahead of them but still behind Red Bull) if they had power equivalent to that. Well at least Alonso would be, how close Vandoorne would be is kind of unknown he hasn't had much luck so not sure what his ultimate pace is at right now.

I thought TR was still using Ferrari. Cheers. That really calls into question how good/poor the Renault engine is. I wonder if all cars has the same engine, how would they rank? I imagine the Red Bulls would be much closer to the front.

McLaren has no right to keep up with those other teams. It's a bloody shame Honda has made such a balls of it so far. I reckon Honda will sort it out and become respectable sooner or later. But it's a shame to think of McLaren making  a decent chassis and it's fighting with poorer cars and rookie drivers with better engines.

The Renault engine is down on the Mercedes and Ferrari for sure but they've closed the gap somewhat. Another engine upgrade is due for Canada I think. Red Bull have also stated they've had some correlation issues between CFD / wind tunnel and the actual on track performance. So their gap isn't only engine related.

With an upgraded engine McLaren could make a considerable jump forward given how tight the midfield battle is.
