I've been following Shane closely over the last few weeks and I've noticed he seems to be missing a lot of putts from inside 5 feet. Just a while ago he had a par putt from 4' 6" and missed. He seems to be doing it a lot. By contrast mcdowell just had a near 10 footer for par on the par 3 and sure enough he holed it. Has Shane always been weak with the putter from that range or has something changed?

I know taking two putts in isolation as above isn't a great sample for the two, but I have noticed it with Lowry recently. Not just par putts either, I've seen a few birdie chances missed from that range as well.

Pros can be streaky when it comes to putting and Shane is no exception. After the waste management open he said that he hadn't putted well and he slipped back down the field not Saturday and Sunday. Last week he climbed through the field.

He'll probably come back after the forthcoming break and shoot the lights out, maybe in Augusta!

Shane managed to finish his round with a birdie, leaving him on +2, but has started his second round with another bogey. Looks like it might be a struggle to make the cut.

Didn't bother to finish his round today.

flew home instead. Many on here will be looking for his blood if that happened in their local club comp.

I'd say many on here would be just happy to be just playing with him, and would be too honoured to to be looking for blood, but meh there's always one who won't be happy regardless:pac:

Isn't his wife expecting a baby this week? I'm sure he had reason to go home.

That's my understanding of the situation, so I think it is excusable in this instance to pull out.

Another fantastic interview by Paul Kimmage below with Shane and Paddy. Some laugh out loud moments combined with a fascinating insight to life on tour. Slightly worrying to hear Paddy talk about his current injury ending his career.

PK: But if you don't stand for something you stand for nothing.

The above line said it all for me about Paul, he is looking for something to 'stand for' and that has made him seem bitter rather than passionate in the last while imo

Bit old, but I've just came across it myself...

Nice round 5 under 1 off the lead in the RBC.
Well capable of beating this field tbf. Needs something to get back up the rankings fast.

Indeed Andy, I haven't seen a shot he's played yet. But it it would be nice to see him in that tartan jacket?!? I mean with a win here...

He had an early tee time today so he was in the clubhouse by the time the TV coverage started.....we should see him tomorrow.

Great interview there with Shane at the Sky Cart. Interesting that he said he hasn't played a lot of golf lately. Understandably since the arrival of Iris but does explain his performance last Friday... Great stuff today though, hope he keeps the foot down.

Wasn't aware he called the kid after Bono's mom. :D

Same as last week, needs to get the finger out

Seems to be lacking any real determination or focus at present. If you took his ranking points from US Open and WGC out (and yes I know that's a big take-out) he would be struggling to stay inside Top 125 in the world.

    Really really disappointing .

The Sky Sports team and then on Golf Weekly seem to be hiting at some personal problems.

He does have a new born

Shot +1 today, 2 under on the firt 9 and 3 over on the way home. He's tied 44th, so not a great week. Very good first round, decent enough third round, awful second round and poor enough final round. Seems to be lacking consistency!

Appears to be suffering from hoping back and forth to the states every few weeks. Very few can manage it.

Aer lingus are the only winners.

Hopefully a few weeks in Europe to sort him out and back on the road.

Shane and his missus had their first child in the past two months or so, I'm sure. With the nature of his day-job - travel, then need for constant, sustained practice etc - that probably means you can almost write off at least the first half of this season, in fairness.
