Is it just me, or does that slip lane look too narrow? Is it a) not finished, with more tarmac to be put in on the left-hand side, or b) a camera distortion, and really it's fine?

Because if it's as narrow as it looks it would, IMO, deter drivers from using the lane until the last minute - thus defeating the purpose.

It's hard to tell, I doubt the speed limit will be above 60kph on the bypass anyway.

It's a grade seperated dual carraigeway the limit will be 100km/h.

No there are for the jersey barrier,as you can see in pic the two wires

This is my first post on here and I just want to congratulate M17 on an absolutely brilliant job. I also want to concur with Spacetweek that the photograph he mentions is an amazing photo. ( I am a new user and so cannot re post said photo). I would go so far as to say copyright it immediately and enter it in competitions.

The distance signs went up on the most northerly end of the works, where the new road will rejoin the old road north of Tuam. Galway is 49km from Tuam at this point, but only 32km on the current road.

Here is the breakdown tuam to galway in October with speed limit in brackets N17 4kms(100kms),m17 25.5 kms (120kms),m6 9 kms (120kms),n6 7.5kms(100kms),r336 3 kms (50kms)

100% this. Even if it took a considerable amount longer to use the new road, I would still use it to never have to see Tuam or clairegalway ever again.

At the posted speed limit, it would take 28 mins to from Tuam to Galway. If Duiska is as it is now, that is going to add considerably to that time, but if it gets worse, then ******* ****.

To go the old road, it is necessary to achieve an average of 70 km/h - possible if the 100 km/h limits survive, but only off peak. Currently Google gives 40 min to 1 hour (leaving at 8 am).

It is 50% longer by motorway.

First post. Thanks to all and M17 in particular for updates. Regular traveller Cork Sligo. Roll on more road improvements to North West. Will they be able to cross the road in Milltown Ballindine though when the uninterrupted traffic hits after bypass opening.?

I think that's a good question, certainly could lead to increased traffic through those villages at peaks like friday afternoon/evenings and in lead up to bank holidays etc. Tuam won't be able to filter them through gradually like it does now, equally it probably won't build them up like it does now.... I'd have to say that it's likely that the impact won't be huge most of the time (but what do I know?)
As a matter of interest what difference do you think this'll make to you?
I do Tuam - W. Cork regularly via Cork so I think there's more than half an hour saving in this for me... at least 20mins saved off the Oranmore-Gort section at least

Very much so, used to do limerick to Sligo alot and it normally takes 2hr55 could bring it down to 2hr15
