    Rebounds
    If a shot on goal is blocked by an opposition player, is saved by a goalkeeper or hits the woodwork, and a goal is scored from the rebound, then an assist is awarded.

    It may or may not be on target. The poster said the keeper had to save it and then rebound out to Dier.
    That's not true it can rebound of a defender or hit the post and still be an assist.

    Didn't know that a defensive block also counted. It looked like a shot to me anyway.

    Yes.
    Perhaps the fact it got 2 deflections is giving them pause in awarding the assist.
    The goal shot being inside or outside the box is irrelevant.
