Housing waiting lists

Hi,

Want to make an inquiry,if anyone knows,that would be great.I have a family member waiting on the social housing list for the past eight years now.Does anyone know how long more they have to wait?Think there going through H.A.P social housing.

How long is a piece of string ,

If there on hap they might not be on the housing list at all (worth checking out)

If they are a single person with no "issues" they will be waiting a good 20 years plus in Dublin.

I agree with Atlantic Dawn, a friend's aunt was recently given an apartment in south Dublin after waiting 12 years. She has no kids or partner, approx late 50's, physically able but has a few mental/emotional issues.

Fair enough: a non disabled single person should be able to house themselves via private rental until they be come elderly.

We don't know if thats the OPs situation though.

Hi op, the HAP scheme has nothing to do with the social housing list. It is a new scheme to enable eligible persons to engage with private landlords to secure accommodation. The contract is between thwm and the landlord and is NOT a social housing property. Once they secure a valid and approved property with HAP Will they be removed from the social housing list. If however they are set on a social housing property try as others have mentioned can be waiting years and years based on the availability in their area. Hope thia helps

It depends on the council they're applying to and heavily in regards to the number of areas they've indicated they're happy to live in. For example: if you only specify Malahide/Howth when looking for housing from Fingal Co Co you could be waiting 20+ years but if you also indicate Blanchardstown, Balbriggan or Swords you'll be housed quicker than that. Engaging with the housing officers also helps.

If you, your partner or the kids have a "recognised illness" you might get up the list more.

Did they get house yet? When you go onto HAP you can remain on the social housing list if you tell them that you want to remain. You are just on a different list, but you retain your position. It’s called the HAP transfer list. I’m just wondering how many years it might take, so I’d be interested to know if your family member was offered a place yet.

Harder than you seem to think. Even for disabled elderly.
