Athenry Park & Ride

To me this seems a bit fanciful.

The jobs in Galway are largely located in an arc to the east of the city which is not where the station is, or even nearby.

Take someone living in Ennis and working in the Mervue Industrial Estate. Are they really going to whizz to a large junction outside Athenry, turn right and spend 10 minutes getting into Athenry and parking, then another 17 minutes on a train to Ceannt station, and then another 20 minutes walking to work?

Or are they just going to stay in the car and battle the traffic on the east side of Galway? I think the latter.

Would a Park and Ride at Galway Airport (bearing in mind that Galway County Council now own it) work better with frequent buses to various destinations in the city? Possibly provide for future upgrade to BRT?

Given the capacity of the road at the airport is already maxed out at peak times (longggg tailbacks), diverting more traffic to it would be counter productive.

Added to that, any buses going to Parkmore would be stuck in traffic for an hour trying to get from the airport to the ind estate.

QBC's might reduce that somewhat, but you still have to negotiate the Parkmore Rd itself.

Piecemeal approaches just won't cut it. There needs to be millions spent to set things right.

For one thing, any future factories planned for there should instead be diverted to the Oranmore IDA park and even that will have its own problems given how busy that stretch of road is in the mornings

Unsurprisingly, there are calls for a park and ride to be located Athenry once the M17/M18 PPP opens.

What I read from that article that is about Double Tracking Railway line from Athenry to Galway City. P & R mention + M17/M18 was just used as the hook.

Need a regional approach to Galway's Car Traffic problems.
