    Hi all,

    I am applying for an online gambling license for my company set up in Ireland, I am just wondering, if approved does that give me jurisdiction to operate in other EU countries, specifically Ireland, Germany and Italy or is a license for each individual country required?

    If anyone has any knowledge on the whole licensing procedure that would be GREATLY appreciated :)

    Genuinely, you need to talk to a lawyer, not to a group of people in an online forum. If it's really for your company, it's simply a no-brainer to have proper legal answers that you can stand over. Anonymous opinions written here are simply conjecture.

    There isn't an Irish online gambling licence. All the operators providing services here have licences issued by other jurisdictions. Most common international licences are Isle of Man, Malta, Gibraltar.

    Maybe you are thinking of Guernsey, who have a few operators under the Alderney licences.

    To answer another question; Italy requires its own license, and it's not cheap. There are operators established without licence but they find it hard to do business due to restrictions on advertisement, payments etc.

    Germany is even more complicated. One state issues some licences but there is no pan-German licence, although they don't block EU based operators.

    Ireland is pretty chill as long as you have a remote gaming licence from another jurisdiction.

    The big question is where the servers and staff have to be located.

    Thats very helpful thank you. It will be setup and operated from Ireland, so if we get a license here can we operate in the other eu countries? or did I pick that up wrong

    In which case you need to think very carefully. There are pretty much no gaming companies with their servers here, even they might operate here. Foe example; Paddy Power has a Maltese licence and a UK licence (among others), and almost certainly does not have their servers in Ireland.

    Thank you very much for your help! Hugely appreciated. We do plan on getting proper legal advice, but I am trying to gather as much information myself as possible

    With all due respect you asked in another thread what to do about a guy in Pakistan who you gave basically your last €5k to design this website to and tried to do a runner.

    You're a recent college graduate with no business experience trying to enter one of the most competitive markets out there with no capital and no idea.

    Don't spend another euro on this.

    Denmark also. And there are some countries where there's no local license and it's not advisable to operate under another EU license either: e.g. Belgium and the Netherlands. At least, I would say it's not advisable because the big operators who have legal departments and compliance professionals don't tend to do it.

    Id agree with you, if it was a standard runofthemill gambling website, however its not and I cannot discuss details at this time. I merely asked some questions, they were answered to my satisfaction, although your concern is appreciated!

    If you're not trying to compete with the likes of Paddy Power and think you have found a suitable niche I wish you the best of luck. Many a successful entrepreneur was told in the early days they were mad.

    You can forget about doing business in The Netherlands.
    All gambling is state owned.
    Might change in the future but funny enough, they are not in a hurry for some reason.
