There is a late change to the hurling team. Patrick Horgan is replacing Shane Kingston.

Pat Horgan answering the critics in style.

That was nail-biting. Some very good performances.
Lehane went off in the first few mins and replaced by fitzgibbon who was outstanding, got 5pts from play I think.
Spillane had a v good game, Cahalane had his best game I've seen in a while. Half backs were good. Brosnan did well for the most part, a couple of poor decisions but that's probably inexperience at this level, before he went off early in the second half with a knee injury.
Hoggy showed his quality from frees and some vital late scores. Harnedy did well. Cadogan caused havoc in the first half before his tooth got knocked off and went a bit quiet then. Harnedy gave tipp a headache all day.
Cooper would have you pulling your hair out, he's a fierce team player, I can't decide whether he should be starting or not.
Some of our short passing would drive you mad, the ball really needs to be let go, they seem to hold on to the ball for a pass or two more than they should far far too often.

All in all a very good performance.
Back line even though they had a good game, still let in 3 goals at the end of the day, and we didn't go for the jugular enough ourselves by dropping ball in to a dominant full forward line when we had the wind in the first half.

But all in all things are looking far far far better than they were only a few short weeks ago. Well done to the lads for rallying so well, optimistic for the quarters now, think we have Limerick

A great day for Cork GAA, for a change, with footballers and hurlers winning. A rare thing in recent times.

This isn't 04 vintage with O'Connors scoring points for fun, we need a goal threat desperately. Our backs seemed to be on top but we still shipped 3 goals which was frustrating. I was tearing my hair out at times like eurokev, some shocking messing about with short passes - I would guess nearly half our attempted hand passes went to the opposition or resulted in lost possession. In fairness against the wind in the second half it was probably the safer option.

When is a square ball not a square ball? When it hasn't reached the parallelogram yet. The ref was useless.

Great to see Hoggy doing the business, and great to see a Fitzgibbon doing damage in red again :)

Shipping goals and not scoring them is our main issue.

On paper it looks like Hoggy did well but he was playing hide and seek for most of the game. Running out behind Cadogan, not making his own runs. Terrified of running the other side where James Barry was. You can see his confidence is low. A couple of years ago he would've went for goal towards the end instead of throwing it over.

Horgan has never been interested in goals. Ditto Cadogan and Lehane. The only one vaguely interested in running at the goalie was O'Farrell but you'd imagine his days are numbered. Its something that will need to be drilled into Meade and Kingston - looking for and getting goals.

He's a rubbish ref, delighted l can say this after a win so can't be accused of sour grapes. 2 incidents in the second half, for example,

#1 Tipp defender has the ball driving out by the goal (think he might have dropped his hurley) goes to kick the ball, is challenged and hits the deck, no free from the ref, so play on, Cork player wins ball, ref blows to stop play !!! and ends giving a throw ball, nothing wrong with the Tipp defender, absolute clown of a ref.

#2 Cork attacker is fouled but breaks the tackle, through on the 22 straight in front of the goal, with an overlapping run from Cork no. 10 for a 2:1 what does ref do ? blows for a free in to Cork, no advantage, moronic reffing. Cost us what should have been a certain goal at a vital time.

Also, constantly throughout the game he was blowing for over carrying when the attacker was being fouled, he's too unfit to keep up with play so he just blows it up, when realistically he hasn't a scooby doo if there's foul playing going on. To be fair, he was doing that for both sides so at least it was consistently crap referring.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,351 ✭✭✭zetecescort

1-15 to 0-4 with 10 to go. really poor display. a much talked about Kerry side are beating us out the gate without playing anywhere near their potential

edit: second Kerry goal 2-15 to 0-4

Football is ****ed. That says a lot considering the footballing population is much bigger than the hurling.

seeing as we have made little or nothing of successful underage teams tonight won't change much.

Jesus that Kerry team were very very good, some fine players there.

On a side note, I've never seen the parking so bad around pairc UI rinn, cars were abandoned. Im local and walked in with the dog in the second half and cars were half across drives,on corners, in private apartment spaces, on boths sides of narrow roads in parks blocking the road and footpaths. Twas actually funny it was so bad

Why did Kevin Flahive not start as he was selected to start? Was he injured?

Kerry were just levels above us. The difference in how the teams were able to work the ball out of defence was staggering.

That's the result of Jack O'Connor taking some very good minor teams through - has them playing at a very high level, well drilled and there's huge talent there also.

Cork have a few decent players but they're not on a level playing field at the moment.

Not sure who was in charge last year of the minors, but that Cork team were well fancied IIRC - perhaps getting a revered coach in there to bring them through for a few years would see similar results - Counihan would be like for like with what Kerry have done. Easier said than done I know.
