Dose for dry hoggets

    Hello,

    Wondering what lads dose dry hoggets with this time of year? Or do ye dose at all?

    Historically, I wouldn't have dosed the ewes with lambs...

    But now, am wondering whether dry hoggets should be dosed or not? I can't remember if I used to dose them before, which makes me think I might not have...

    I need to give em some minerals next weekend anyways... some of em have gone very wire-y in the wool...

    Just wondering what other lads do...

    A pre sample is only €12 or €15 now. Farmlab in Elphin seem to be very keen. I just send them off by post in sandwich zip bags you get in the supermarket

    That's not too bad - last time I tested (was prob two years ago) it was double that I think, or more... enough that made me think twas as cheap to buy a dose as to sample...

    If they haven't been dosed over the winter, Would it be any harm cleaning em out for any fluke they've picked up ? I'm giving ewes albex at the moment at turnout.

    Like anyone buying store lambs, testing isn't going to help you develop a dosing regime.
    Even if you find the dose you use this year has worked there's no guarantee that the lambs you buy in next year won't have worms resistant to that dose

    Done last year's ewe lambs well with fluke and worms but still lost ones until I done dung sample wanna mind now name a thing was in them but was recommended cydectin and it's the best thing I bought all year they fair thrived after it done them with it yesterday again as was shifting them and had a bit left over.

    I gave mine 1ml of Ivomec Classic in the late Autumn and Winter. A few are dirty now so I will go with fluke doose Tribex i find good. That will clear them up. They were out wintered.
