R118 is again carrying out a very detailed search of significant sections of the coast that have been downwind of Blackrock, and also the coast north of Blacksod. It's also noticeable on Marine Radar that there is other RNLI and coastguard activity over a wide area off the Mayo coast.
That can only mean one thing surely.

    That's pretty detailed alright.

Edit: R118 is off searching along the coast again by looks of it

Looks like a very big operation, the entire Belmullet peninsula and west coast of Achill island is nearly covered.

Similar searches have been conducted by the CG Helicopters over the past few days but not as comprehensive as this.

Edit - R118 appears to have landed in Blacksod.

i can't do mulittracks and don't have time to overlay them all but if you look at the other craft involved you'll see it's a very detailed search atm.

Yeah I can see that. I've individually selected a number of the RNLI boats and can see their past tracks. Huge area covered in total.

It's a struggle to remain positive about this.

Very hard to see it as a good sign that such an extensive coastal search is underway.

    in regards to recovery?

I am hoping that we get some positive news soon but the fact that several lifeboats and R118 are sweeping the coastline seems to indicate that not everything that they are looking for is contained close to Blackrock.

6 rnli/cg boats out there at moment, probably due to better weather conditions, allowing them to conduct proper searches, less white wave activity

A lot of RNLI & CG boats scouring the coastline - is it possible that they are just taking the first opportunity to scour for debris that may have been moved during the recent sea swells?

Current increase in RNLI/CG activiy would have been planned to take advantage of improved conditions, rather than being a result of any findings from divers who have only just started their dives. RTE report at 11:24 said dives would commence shortly.

Looks like 118 is returning to Sligo now, having been searching intensively around the Blacksod area

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Honestly guys I think people should not speculate - lets just wait and see what information is released based on the dives

i call it logical discussion, not speculation. this thread (excluding the deleted posts) has been fairly on the money so far in terms of what follows in public domain a few days later.

I don't think you can read to much into todays searches, if you look at the tracks they are tight into the coastline.

other than that the CG/RNLI has had the first real opportunity to conduct a co-ordinated search of relevant coastal/shore areas since last week as the weather has settled compared to the previous 7 days or so. I expect we will see many more such co-ordinated searches over the coming days, in hopes of collecting any debris that may have been washed ashore.

R117 (i think) is up from Waterford now and searching tight to the coast again.

Mod Post A number of potentially distressing and speculative posts have been unapproved, and may be reinstated after discussion with the site administrators, who have given us specific guidance about what can and cannot be posted at the moment.

Please do not post ANY speculations about the location or recovery of the remains of the 3 missing crew members.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Its been doing a tight coastline flight since it arrived at AchillBeg at around 14:45. The attached screenshot is from abt 5 minutes ago

That's the second time today that some of that area has been scanned by one of the S92's. 118 did a very exhaustive search earlier in the day for several hours.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Good news is not the right word but I really hope all the families get the news they need soon, it must be torture for them

Just checked, and it looks like there are 2 S92's in the air over the Belmullet area, and a third on the ground at Sligo.

Is the AC helicopter on scene? It doesn't usually show up on MT

Yup. 250002902 (R118) and 250002897 (R117) with 250002898 (R115) sitting at strandhill (based on past tracks)
