How do I verify an estate agent is who he says he is?

About to fork over a lot of money and I'd like to be sure it's all above board before hand. I have no reason to doubt - am just cautious by nature with this stuff.

In particular, that the agent has the right to let the place...

Suggestions appreciated.

Call.into their office and meet them there maybe? Get a receipt on headed paper?

Search for them on the Property Services Regulatory Authority Register

Open the pdf of current licence holders and do a search for them

That they are not listed there just means they are not registered in eg Ireland. And does not guarantee their probity if they are.

I dealt with an honest one who was not listed as he simply is not a member. r

'Membership' is not optional though. An estate agent must be registered.
