I was sorting out a flue at a day care facility today. When I finished I went in a told a staff member that she could turn on the heating again. She offered me tea and brought me to a room where about 15 seniors were having tea. A few minutes later the carer came in and advised us all that we would be warm in a few minutes as she had turned the stat to 30 to heat the place up quickly.

I explained that it wouldn't heat any quicker and would eventually overrun the desired temperature. Well I was rounded on by about half of those present who forcefully disagreed with me.

I eventually explained how it worked, but I am sure a few only pretended to understand.

I couldn't believe so many thought it worked that way. Any of you come across this before?

Yes. God yes. What's worse some people would believe the postman over me. You'd try and explain but it's embedded in their head. Try's usually are the culprit. Turn down the trv makes the rad cooler

My thermostat is set to 60. I've been told a few times it's way to high. Isn't it about right?

My Mother's termostat is set about the same but the water boils in the back of the stove for a few mins before the pump comes on. A plumber said the pipes were at a bad angle and it would be a big job to sort it out. Strange because to old range didn't have that problem. Wonder would a new termostat make a difference?

It's not in the plumbing and heating line. My (long over now) work background is electronics. We are/were in fringe reception area for RTE transmitters. A large and complex aerial array would often raise comments from neighbours about "attracting interference" and "worsening their signal".
30C, or even 60C, would suit herself here just fine!
